This is a group for the "extremists" of peaceable and considerate discussion. Members of this group hold no place among the radical left for dismissive, sectarian, and adversarial attitudes. Here we value intellectual honesty and safe learning environments as a fundamental part of creating a supportive community and opposing all forms of oppression.
Group requirements:
Members must...
1) Strive at all times to maintain high standards in discussions, debates and arguments.
2) Disapprove of insults and slander, as they reflect poorly on us all. When you loose your head, you loose your reason.
3) Understand the difference between criticism and personal attacks. Attacking others puts them on the defensive, while proving others wrong on a factual reasoned basis, is productive.
4) Are proponents of equal standards for everyone, no favoritism or sectarian values.
5) Maintain critical thinking, and always challenge fallacies in thought and writing; whether they agree with a position politically or not.
6) Stand up for our ethics, including the rights of others, popular or not.
7) Apologize when they have treated others disrespectfully or failed them through their own fault.
8) Do not hold personal vendettas. Let it go and live your lives.
9) Encourage others to be kind and thoughtful in their interactions.
As a group, we work to improve the conditions of communication and encourage empathy. We have worked hard to make RevLeft and many other environments better and more productive places and we will continue to do so.
