    Hi everybody,

Well I'm married myself and believe in marriage and the traditional nuclear family unit as a basis for raising kids, and we know Che was married twice.

How does marriage as a formal concept/institution/tradition fir into Che's beliefs? Was it for the legitimacy of his kids or what? Surely the man was not henpecked into buyin' a ring, no?

Che's first marriage to Hilda was more a marriage of conveniance. From what I have read, he never felt true love for Hilda, only for Hildita, their daughter.

However, I think Che's marriage to Aleida March was out of pure love and for the "traditional nuclear family unit" you talk of. He was a proud man with great love for his wife and children.

For the wives and a few others too...he is Latino, after all!!

In an era before DNA testing, I do believe he wanted to give his children legitimacy, so he knew that his memory would live on in their lives. Still, from what I've read Hilda nagged him and wore him down till he gave in and bought the ring. What a sweet relationship he had with Hidita though.

El Ché would have liked me......

you guys are all very right. I Think there is a place for the nuclear family. His "fling" with Hilda was just that to him, he didnt even like her much initially, she was just an easy fuck. [in his own words]

But if you look at his love for Chichina, the gal he left before he went on his trip with Alberto, that was an intense love. A love he wasnt sure he would have survived. So we see that Love, and i mean an intense love was possible for the Comandante.

In Addition we see his loyalty to Aleida. We hear about infedelity with Hilda, but not with Aleida.

Wether he had enough time is a different story. I think that he devoted his time and his life to his ideas and the struggle for a better world. Unfortunately this left little time for his family and children. It strained his relationship with Hilda.

So i think theres a place for it all, but what comes first, the ideal or the family, is up to each individual.

No, I meant it as a serious question. Che was such an original thinker that he questioned every paradigm brought before him about humanity and communal living. For many, marriage is an illogical step when the relationship can be held without such a formality.
