It's going to be shown on Cinemax. A mini series/movie of sorts. I don't have cinemax but for those of you that do, tell us how they portray him, Che, and the Cuban revolution.

Ok.. I don't know about a Fidel movie on Cinemax but there will be one on Showtime.. Read the last post in "Che: The Movie".. It's in this same forum section (Ernesto "Che" Guevara).
hmmm..maybe it was Showtime. I had one of the premium channels for free last week and I saw a comercial
Today's Wall Street Journal gives it a good write up and says
Sunday and Monday Jan 27-28
8-10pm EST Showtime
It looks good but does anyone agree with me from the previews that the guy playing Fidel looks more like Che than Fidel? Just a thought.

WORLD PREMIERE
Sunday January 27, 8pm (ET/PT)
Just ran across it on Sunday's Newspaper. Gonna try and catch it tonight.
Here's a trailer preview of the Fidel movie at the top of this review. Watch out though, I heard the slant was biased anti-castro.

I watched that sordid "MY little Assassin." Didn't buy a word of that trashy propaganda.
The che character's looks were dead on though!!!!!!
OK review of the first halk last night: Very lightweight.
So far on Castro's side.
Well acted, movie quality production, filmed in Mexico and Dominican Republic.
The actor playing Fidel is excellent and believable (Victor Huggo Martin) but like I said earlier resembles Che which was a little distracting.
The women's roles are marginalized (duh). Lady playing Celia Sanchez very convincing.
OK on to Che. First of all the guy playing him is short.
Next they did capture a little intensity in Che when they showed his first meeting with Fidel, but they came across as a couple of lads planning spring break more than serios revolutionaries. Nothing was made of Che being a medical doctor.
After that, Che is very much a bit player on the sidelines, most likely because the story is about Fidel and if they played up Che he would overshadow him.
Annoying stuff in the movie: Che has floppy schooboy hair. HE would be a better resemblance if they moussed his hair back but then.......
On to a problem i had watching this. God I am going to come across racist and I am NOT. But folks, a movie all about Cubans with very few women in it.....I'm sorry, the various players are too hard to tell apart. In every scene you're looking around, OK where's Fidel, where's Che, where's Raul... who are the good guys, who are the bad guys....please forgive me, I'm not saying they all look alike but they all look alike on screen.
Overall, so far, don;t watch it for Che, you won;t find much of the man at all here. But so far very watchable and I would definitly watch it again.
Tonight it seems they show his rapid descent into the dictatorship adn dominance of the peasants that he campaigned and fought against. I'll update you guys tomorrow.

So far the political bent is what one can expect from an American production. Iam sure tonight will show "Big Bad Castro" and have a field day. Che was shown not really giving a shit about executions which is true AND not true. He had a very hard time finding those who were once comrads to be traitors and executed. Those who were in fact Batista henchmen, he had no problem with seeing executed. But the fellow chubby fighter who was dimissed by Che with"Shoot him" I do not buy that for a minute. Also, case in point, Che was a not a tall man. so the actor playing Che seems to resemble the young Che quite a bit. But let's face it, NO MAN is going to fill the handsome shoes when it comes to Che. That's just fact.
I watched it (Part 1) and it could barely keep my attention but I did learn some things that I didn't know from it. I was always confused about who was who as well..
They didn't seem to be making Castro look like a bad guy in Part 1. And Yes, the guy who played Che did not even look right! He looked a bit dorky, in my opinion.
Overall, Part 1 was OK.. I like the actor playing Fidel, he's good. I'll be watching Part 2 in a couple hours (unless I forget or something)... I'll definitely want to see that "Cuba Today" or whatever thing that they'll show after the mini-series is over. That should be interesting..
I'm sorry if that was odd.. I'm tired.. Our weather is hideous and it's making me sick.![]()
This movie looks like crap!
I watched the trailer and it looks like pure anti-cuban propaganda!

What kind of BS is that !?!
This looks like a big pile of Sheeyat...

I recorded both parts, for later viewing. I've been too busy to catch it on time.
I've recorded and seen the movie in it's entirety (4 hours, that damned wretched Black Hawk bullshit wasn't even that long) and it wasn't too bad--considering it's American made. I caught many many many twisted facts just about everywhere but I thought, personally, they only twisted facts to make Fidel look better and that's hard to do considering what a great revolutionary he is.
OK, now it's on to Che. First of all, am I to expect that that little fucker was supposed to be the late Commandante Ernesto 'Che' Guevara de la Serna Lynch?!
First of all, I suppose you can't duplicate Che or his charisma. Che is Che. But that kid could've at least made an effort to act like Che. As Supermodel said Che could've been a frat boy straight outta college in this movie. And one thing that bothered me was when the one comrade who was insabordinate during the training exercises and almost got killed during the court marshall had only one vote against him for an execution out of four. In the movie he had two against him. I believe that Che was for the court marshall but against the execution. Raul was the only one for the execution. But of course in the movie Che was portrayed as a 'bad guy' and voted for execution.
I mean sure Che was ruthless at times but he didn't go around during the meetings saying cold things like, "What do you mean let's have votes!? KILL THEM ALL!" Che was full of love for revolution and for the people.
Allthough, I did feel that Che's downfall was portrayed rather well all the way from the meeting that was never released to the public (but oddly enough was line for line in the movie) to his execution. I felt that part was 100% true.
Oh by the way, when I first saw the actor who played Che in the movie I think I laughed until the first half was over.

I saw both parts and it was pro-castro. That being said i DO agree that the guy who played Fidel looked more like Che. It was distracting. Overall I think they did an adequate job. I feel they looked over some important history, but they only had 4 hours.
Onto something that bugged me a bit more. Did anyone notice the fact that when Che spoke to Fidel about the Bolivia expedition it seemed as though he was timid and fearful? It also seemed as though this would be the first expedition or attempt in exporting revolution. As we all know it was not, the Congo came first. It might have been the actor, but Che looked flimsy, for lack of a better word.
They also got the scene of this death wrong, in case anyone wants to know. Read the passage in the book "Shadow Warrior" by Felix Rodriguez, the guy who helped catch Che. It illuminates some facts, and it is a bit biased, but look past it and focus on the history.
--------------------------------
The kid who played Che (I mean KID!) was good for the Mexico meeting only. He had some similarities to a young Ernesto. But once 6 years had passed they should have gotten a MAN to play him, for Lenin's sake! He was perfectly laughable in part 2. He looked like he needed a diaper change instead of more bullits! Che was also way better looking than the actor who played Castro, although at least he looked like a man! I found the documentary afterward interesting. Anyone see that? What did you think of it? It was a New York Times film production.
Good point Lorenzo.
Anyways, sorry I'm late, work intervenes in my fun sometimes but I'm back today.
The second installment was a great big so-what.
OK the whole TV movie thing is analogy-as-representation-for-years-of-history but even so the big bad corrupt Batista was shown as supporting a regime full of prostitution and US sailors peeing on Marti's statue. OK, it's an analogy, but will the average viewer get the point? Nah.
Anyhow the second episode I found didn't slam communism per se, just the fact that the workers didn't see any reason to work hard any more since they weren't paid any more, and Fidel complains that they haven't been tought to be good communists.
Killing off people who disagreed with Fidel even if they had been loyal all along, well, that showed a sinister side and it can't be dismissed as not factual.
The real disapppointment for me was the lack of character development in Che and the lack of charisma that the actor was allowed to show. Only a certain ruthlessness came across, not the passion or as Che put it "Love" for the ideals. Nor was the extraordinary friendship between the two men well portrayed.
Celia Sanchez' character was developed far better, she came across as the brains, structure and organization behind the revolution and as a very sweet companion to Fidel as well.
With Che they completely glossed over Congo and went straight to the 3-minute version of his last stand. This momentous moment in history was over in a blink of an eye and I for one felt very emotional at that point in the movie but more out of my own memory that how it was portrayed.
They spent more time showing Fidel and Celia feeling bad about it than they did on the murder itself.
Oh, well. They did not demonise Fidel, Che, the Soviets or the US. Like I said, a big so-what. No climactic moment, no real ending.
Even so I would watch it again for sure.
I have the whole thing on tape and would be happy to copy it. We could send it via the moderators if you like. Post here if you want a copy (U.S. VHS format) and I will see if we can get it to you. I know there is a way to transform US tapes to UK format but don;t ask me how.

Supermodel,
Great Point about character development, i feel the same way. It was a good outing, but i believe that had they developed the secondary characters more, it would have made the film so much better.
Where are you in America? I'd like a copy if it's not too much trouble. I'm broke though--it's why I can't afford Cinemax in the first place.
Maybe they'll let you rent it in a few months. They do that with lots of "original programming" from HBO and Showtime.

Pillar, I'd be happy to send you a copy. If you don't mind giving me your snail mail (Postal) address, just email it to me at [email protected]. If you don't want to share addresses, and I certainly understand, we could ask the moderator to send it from me to you. No charge, amigo.
