I personally find myself in rebellion against the fate that history seems to have in store for us, and I suspect that some of you may be equally rebellious. The question is, what can you do? --Leo Szilard, \"Are We On The Road To War?\" Nov 17, 1961
I vollenteer alot, in sugar cane fields, painting houses, and teaching english at a university.
I now have many friends who live there
I
I went to havana(didn't like too much, but only there for a week), then Santiago(was very nice, short while also), and then the rest of the time in Holguin and I liked it there.
Cuba has it's problems but they definetly out do us with community and spirit by a long shot.
I went there with my mother and spent two weeks and then she ditched me with a Cuban family for the rest of there year, my mother is a travel agent as well as I am now. I'm getting tired but I'm sure I'll talk alot about Cuba and my experiences in my posts.
what did you not like in havana, may i ask? and what did you enjoy doing most, (how were the sugar fields?)
when i go to mexico the town is very poor, just a shack and dirt floors. i remember sleeping in one room with ten other children. then at night there will be a "dance" in the middle of the desert. i would not go because of the stories (they say the "devil" hangs out at these parties and he will always be the most handsome guy there).![]()

Havana......
Too many tourists
In holguin I was pretty much the only one usually, I got to see the culture from a more realistic perspective.
I wasn't into the hotel scene thing, I was in hotels for about four differnt nights out of the year.
Was there a bad crime problem there?
Did you or anyone here see Che's memorial in Santa Clara? What's it like?
Sounds like you had a fabulous time. I hope to do that someday too.

What up. i spent some time in Havanna recently--I met Fidel, listened to a five hour speech and then hung out at this huge party he had. Interesting. He's very intelligent, I'd have to say. Charasmatic. I'm going back next week, looking forward to it. Cuba is great, and what amazed me most was how well it is working. Maybe i'm nuts--in the dark--but it seemed like a good place to be.
What do the cubans think of Castro? Is he trying to do as much as he can for the people. I know that that stupid embargo ruined all his and Che's dream for a technologically advanced Cuba. Did you meet any unemployed people? Anyone who wanted to leave?
hmm an interesting point, I found it depended on the status of a Cuban person, how they felt about Castro...students were generally positive/biased.....whereas most of the poorer people near where we stayed thought that not nearly enough was done by Castro for the people and that there was a definate bias towards 'white' people.....nothing new there then......
Che Guevara wannabe
I thought the cuabn people gave full hearty support to the old man.
Im trying to go cuba in Autumn, see fidel.
Get some tacky Che Pendalents

i would LOVE 2 go and will one day, it would be great to see some of the theory i read about in action.
How old is Castro, i don't know but i was told he won't be around to much longer.
long live castro

Castro stumbled across an enchanted fountain during the guerilla war and gained immortality. So he'll be around forever
LOL.. you may be right HI, you he will probably be around forever, lol.. i have been to cuba, and i think majority of the people there openly support castro, and the rest openly critisize him.. i never saw anyone 'scared' to talk bad about him, cause some people did. most the people who talked bad about him where people who had gone to jail for various reasons, and the elderly, especially the ones over 40 had a great respect for castro. im assuming its because they saw wat capitalism was in action, they know what suffereing is like.

I\'m gonna change the world one day! Or, maybe i wont, but i\'ll be damned if i dont try. - me..
I definatly hope to visit Cuba one day. I can't think of anything better than to see all the places that I read about while studying Che. I have done very little traveling though. Can anybody tell me a good way to view the country. I don't really want to do the tourist thing. I would like to get to really see the people and the culture. Also any places that I don't want to miss. Thanks.
Cuba's definitely by the top of my list of places to go. I'm already set up for a development mission later this year to Costa Rica and/or Guatemala, so are gradually getting closer. We'll see if I'll be able to nation-hop in my free time.
Pity Che didn't drink from it while he had the chance.
I've planed my cuba trip for the end of june. I'm gonna be there for 4-5 weeks. I'm staying in havana for about a month and doing a spanish language course and in the last week I want to try and see a bit of the rest of the island. I cant wait! I get all hyper everytime I think about it! And I'm really nervous that somethings gonna go wrong, like I'll break a leg or I'll get an e-mail saying the schools closed down and I wont be able to go.
Should the guide I choose be nothing better than a wandering cloud, I cannot miss my way
Nonono, your trip will be fine - positive thinking!
Funnily enough, I'm getting all hyper thinking about your trip, too - make sure you put Santa Clara upon your itinerary, if only for one day, or part of one.
That sounds like fun, the volunteer work. Its not stressfull like a lot of jobs here, you probably got a great sense of acomplishment.
fuck you imperialist pig dogs.
