Ikonboard sucks, get a YaBB forum.
If you're server has PHP and MySQL use http://www.yabb.info
If you're server has Perl use http://www.yabbforum.com

I don't know, but I like ikonboard. It's very newbie friendly and has lots of good features though. Also, it can easily be manipulated without big programming skills.

its very tough to get someone to host a forum.
hardly any hosting sites allow cgi or psp
i use netfirms.com for my online hosting, i don't have a forum though.
i don't plan to have one either, they are very complicated to set up and maintain.
if you must, i would suggest vbulletin, the best IMO forum script/program.
vB costs money though, YaBB is free.
Also the Perl version of YaBB has lots of downloadable plugins for it which are very easy to install.
