Head for the front line, fellas. This site is awesome in it's simplicity and mission.
www.hactivist.com
Here's the website's mission statement:
"Hactivist is a collective of media artists, technologists,
activists and critical theorists working to explore the
intersection between radical theory, traditional activism,
and technology subversion through the creation of
tactical media projects utilizing communication system
technologies primarily. The collective began in
Pittsburgh, PA in 1997 and is now setting up branch
cells in Michigan, San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia,
Australia, and the United Kingdom. As an organization,
we have completed several larger scale tactical media
works including: Nintendo GameBoy reverse-
engineering; cellphone disruption; pager broadcasting;
construction of our own cell network; an interactive
wireless mapping server; and several experimental
interfaces. Hactivist works with deviants of all
subcultures and sub genres to extend the learning
capabilities for all of its' project contributors through a
forced realization of alternative perspectives on
technologies and their applications. We do not see
communications technologies as simply good or bad; we
are a pragmatic group that takes each system as a tool
on a case-by-case basis. We determine the functionality
of a tool and create an application that may help those
groups and individuals that are traditionally kept
outside the boundaries of technology production.
Hactivist works heavily within the underground music
scene to provide traditional activists with an impetus to
begin discussion about technology issues, begin their
own projects of subversion, and/or work with our
collective on an existing Hactivist project. While our
concentration may appear to be technology based, our
groups goal is to create environments and tools that
promote the growth of personal autonomy by whatever
means."
The prolonged barrage engulfed Zero-One in the glow of a thousand suns. But unlike their former masters with their delicate flesh, the machines had little to fear of the bombs' radiation and heat. Thus did Zero-One's troops advance outwards in every direction. And one after another, mankind surrendered its territories. So the leaders of men conceived of their most desperate strategy yet. A final solution: the destruction of the sky.
