I remember reading somewhere that his father helped establish the first golf courses in Argentina, so he might have picked it up from him. I’ve seen those pictures as well. It’s funny when you think of the type of person you usually associate with golf and compare how they dress to the photos of Che and his buddy’s in uniform and boots. It’s quite a contrasts!

i don't know where you are from niave but golf here in ontario (canada) is becoming more and more of a working class thing. pople don't necessarily dress up for golf anymore either. i (admittingly) used to golf and was definately not the stereotypical golfer as were friends of mine. and a lot of the poeple i know who golf only do it because its a good excuse to drink and thereby never dress 'appropriately' for the golf course.

Che was not a 'golfer' per se - the few occasions he played it were for diplomatic reasons I believe.

The photographer Korda - who made Che famous with his legendary photo (the most reproduced pic in human history) - tells a story in Buena Vista Social Club of a golfing photo - so the story goes, Che let Fidel win.

I‘ve mainly experienced golf courses in Hong Kong, where you have to pay an arm and a leg for membership to a golf club and your regular working class person wouldn’t be able to afford it. There it is still very much game for people who have the money and who a lot of the time only play because its a nice way of doing business or for the “prestige” they attach to it.
I‘ve heard they have public golf courses here in Sydney, where basically anyone can afford to play, so you‘re probably right that people wouldn‘t get too dressed up there. For me though it would still be an unusual sight to see someone pull up in army gear to play a round of golf.

I don't know about golf, but I know he loved football(soccer). He was supposed to have been a good goalkeeper.

Completely off the point, but if he was a good goalkeeper my team could do with him, we lost 11-2, and I was in goal!

Remember El C,there's 10 other players in a football team.Don't blame yourself too much.Anyway, playing in goal for a crap team is good practice for ya!

Btw,beat you....my worst game was 14-0.

Yeah,I'm not suprised.....I follow Ireland on the international scene, best team we've had since the days of Ollie Cambell at the moment. My girlfriend supports England though, and locally the team she drags me off to see is the Leicester Tigers.Much better than golf though.

It is was worse then you thought, it was five aside. But yes!, we got our first victory last friday, 8-2, I'm out field now and got a goal, yay. That game was the start of a new league, so we are top, as they say, things can only get WORSE!

The Irish are a great side you should have won the 6 nations this year.Keith Wood is an awesome player I really like that guy.
Golfs not one of my favs. either it's a bit dull.

Nice one El C.,good to hear you're off to a good start. And yes you're right it's tougher at the top, easier to relax and let it slip.Just think of every game as a relegation battle and you should do alright.

MJM,I agree about Keith Wood, what a motivator. He'll never go down without a fight. How can a team not back up someone with his spirit. But unfortunately I have to(grudgingly)admit that England are still the best overall northern hemisphere team at the moment. They just have more depth than Ireland.Would love to see the All Blacks v England right now.The two top teams in the world(read it 'n' weep Aussies).
btw,Gregan is an awesome player too, pity he's Australian.

Well, I saw the docu-film "Buena Vista Social Club" and at the very beginning, some guy (maybe a photographer) was looking at photographs that he had taken and there was one of Che playing golf with Fidel. He said that Fidel won because Che let him. I thought that was cute..

You know I prefer a semi-automatic in Che's hands rather then a 9 wood. I don't suppose you could drive a ball very far with an automatic machine gun but oh well.

Golf is a very much a rich man's game, from where I come from...just a bunch of rich fat guys talking business over a few beers after 15 minutes in the sun being driven around in a cart full of expensive golf clubs...Fuck that shit...
The prolonged barrage engulfed Zero-One in the glow of a thousand suns. But unlike their former masters with their delicate flesh, the machines had little to fear of the bombs' radiation and heat. Thus did Zero-One's troops advance outwards in every direction. And one after another, mankind surrendered its territories. So the leaders of men conceived of their most desperate strategy yet. A final solution: the destruction of the sky.
