UK Fascists

British National Party (BNP)

• By far the biggest party on the far-right. They claim to have 11,000 members and are a fast growing party. They are also getting votes at elections, and the recent GLA results show this with Barnbrook being elected onto the London Assembley. Their attempt at replacing 'boots with suits' seems to have gone a long way to explain some of their success. That and the fact that alot of people have no confidence in mainstream parties, and the 'left' has faded away means that the BNP are moving in on white working class areas, and very often finding support, often amongst disillusioned former Labour voters. Even with antifascist pressure the group has managed to grow in the capital with an alleged 910 members. The BNP has proved itself well able to exploit racial tensions between white youths and Asian youths in the north west, and at the same time to present a more respectable face than the BNP under John Tyndall ever did, but it is still liable to bouts of internal squabbling, factionalism and resignations (if we are lucky even suicides). Probably the only force on the British far right worth actually bothering about, even though they have moved far from their origins as an explicity neo-Nazi party it is run by people who have been involved in fascist politics for decades.

National Front (NF)

• Stuck between a rock and a hard place in the middle of the slick professionalism of the BNP, and the street thuggery of the likes of the RVF and BFF. The NF's ability to steer a path for itself will determine whether it continues as a shadow of its former self, or if it joins the BNP as a party of some significance. A National 'march' in London in recent years was thinly attended with 17 whole members with the cops forcing them to 'march' on the pavement. On a recent St George's Day 'protest' in Newcastle the political will and commitment of the NF was shown as their demo disappeared just before the first 3 o'clock kick off. Unlike the BNP the NF never managed to turn their large support (in the past) into votes or anything more than a few poxy 'marches' (see Battle Of Lewisham)

British Peoples Party (BPP)

• Formerly the White Nationalist Party, but unable to register with the Electoral Commission, they underwent a makeover and reformed as the "nationalist alliance" unable to get along with each other, they split, and the BPP was formed. Currently headed officially by Kevin "Redwatch" Watmough, and his 'girlfriend' Kate Dermody an Irish citizen (and former prostitute, no us neither). Not really a threat to the fabric of society other than attacking a few minorities, more a laughing stock that attempt to pull stunts for publicity, such as the Leeds anti-rap demo and a group that are willing to sell of their 'friends' for police protection from the "red scum agents of the ZOG".
  Martyn Gilleard, of child-porn, nazi-flags and nail-bomb fame is one of their brave aryan warriors, and recently anther two other fascists with links too them got a prison sentance. Read the Antifa statements on them for acounts of their latest comic shenanigans.

Blood an Honour (B&H)

• Founded in 1987, as a vehicle for White-Power music, by Ian Stuart Donaldson (of Skrewdriver & car crash fame), in response to the actions of the Anti-Nazi League. Since their beginnings in the UK, they have become increasingly popular, and have spread to other nations including; Australia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Croatia; Organising gigs, concerts and distributing 'Rock against Communism' music (if you could call it that) and merchandise. However due to recent failures to hold sucessful gigs in the UK due to antifa pressure, and the recent hack of their website by antifascist hackers means B&H are becoming a joke only seen openly on the T-shirts of fat bald at other fascist events.

Combat 18 (C18)

• Scary nazi 'terror group' and the pride of Stromfront rarely sighted these days in England, and considered an endangered species, not seen in public since 2001. Their last national 'activity' seemed to be putting up a sticker or two in a few northern cities. C18 now has sister groups in several European countries and the USA. Damaged by the revelation that his number two, Darren Wells, was an informer for Searchlight and the security services, C18 Fuhrer Wilf Browning has had an exceptionally low profile recently. Recent raids on C18 in Poland and northern Germany indicate that the authorities still regard C18 as a threat, even if no one else does. Only exists in the media/internet as some sort of Nazi bogey man to scare the gullible.

Racial Volunteer Force/Aryan Strike Force (RVF)

• Formed after the leadership of C18 had an emotional breakup, this group contains literally ones of members and is still heavily styled on C18. Many of the group's members were arrested in 2003 on suspicions stockpiling weapons for their 'holy war' against the 'Zionists Occupational Government' (yeah, we think they are nutters as well). These Aryan warriors, used to provide 'security' (behind the police of course) for the BPP, but again a tiff between leaderships and the BPP informing on its friends for police protection has ended this alliance of the clueless. This group are serious contenders for the "who can make most shit up on Stromfront" award, recently claiming to have stolen intelligence from "Antifa HQ", when in reality they had picked up a publically distributed leaflet, available online. Other than their truely Bond-esque intelligence missions they keep themselves busy releasing poorly spelt statements, even other fascist boneheads have noticed! Truly fucking idiots among idiots.

English National Resistence (ENR)


Remember that moment in Columbo when the culprit would say something like "But I couldn't have murdered him I was at a party", and Columbo would answer "I didn't say anything about a murder" and arrest them because they gave themselves away. Well this is what ENR had to say on their site not to long ago: "We are not just some kids with spray paint".... You can draw your own conclusions.

The recent brainchild of Troy "national anarchist? fuck off" Southgate, ENR follow in the time honoured fascist tradition of stealing their image and style from left. Based heavily on the autonomous anarchist black blocs of mainland Europe, ENR hope they can confuse enough people into joining them by dressing up like somebody else and telling everybody they are anti-nazi (they just don't like Jews, Gypsies, Gays or Communists).

When not talking themselves up on Stormfront they can be found spending time doing up their website, and by the looks of it these guys have got at least a C in their ICT GCSE. If there is a power cut or their mum wants to use Tesco Online, ENR take to the streets putting up literally ones of stencils across the country, hoping this will bring about an autonomous-anti nazi-strasserist-aryan-fascist-white english working class revolution.

I must add they have made it explicitly clear on their website you are not allowed to join if you have ever cheated on you boy/girlfriend, obviously somebody still has not gotten over the emotional damage of being dumped for being a fascist **** yet.

English Defence League (EDL)


Although they claim not to be a fascist group, a violent group or affilitated with the BNP the claims of the EDL just don't stand up. Set up by a BNP member and comprising of racist football casuals, ultra-nationalists, sieg heiling Nazis, and BNP boneheads the EDL have gone back to the Oswald Mosley school of fascism. Going off on 'anti-Islamic' marches and claiming to be non-violent while trying to kick the heads of ethnic minorities hasn't won the EDL many friends, and they have had the same levels of sucess as Oswald did at Cable Steet.

Not satisfied at playing cat and mouse around Luton & Birmingham with working class youths the EDL recent brainwave was to march again the Harrow Mosque located in one of the most culturally diverse areas on London. This feat of BUF-esque genius saw them literally being forced to flee out of town by hundreds of locals. For their next trick: March on Manchester, we await the results eagerly.

Politically the EDL play the role of the former BNP/NF bootboys who had to tidy up their image when the Griffin era's 'boots to suits' mantra became gospel. The EDL came about as a outlet for fascist violence that can claim not to tarnish the BNP's 'legitimate democratic party' line of defence. The EDL marches are not a-political or simply anti-islam as they claim, they are the return of fascism to the streets and as anti-islam (in the form of progressive anti-islamism) as Hitler was a constructive critic of Judaistic teachings.

To get an image of the EDL and the role they could play, think of the BNP circa 1992 and the Battle of Waterloo Station, or the NF at Lewisham.

Needless to say the EDL need to be opposed, and my advice for militant anti-fascists at one of their 'peaceful marches' would be to be prepared to be as 'peaceful' as the EDL will be with you.

Dutch Fascists

Groep Wilders/Partij Voor de Vrijheid (PVV)
Freedom Party (sic)

• After leaving the mainstream liberal-conservative VVD in 2004, parlementairian Geert Wilders started his own party with considerable success, he managed to gain 9 seats and is projected to win a lot more at the next elections. [update] and after a 2 more elections is currently one of the biggest parties in the political landscape. The PVV is a fundamental support of the current VVD/CDA (christian-democratic) minority coalition. He runs on a (borderline-)fascist anti-imigration and islamophobic populist platform and regularly gains masive media attation by making extreme statements in both parlement and media. He achieved international fame by producing the islamophobic internet movie "Fitna" and is reported to be supported by extreme-right wing elements within Israeli politics. The fact that his "party" legally has no other members than himself and he operates in a virtual landscape of media, politics and internet, has made it extremly dificult for anti-fascists to develop a counter strategy to his rise.

Groep Verdonk/ Trots op Nederland (TON)
Proud of the Netherlands

• Former hardline minister of imigration (in which capacity she was partly responsible for the death of 11 illegalised immigrants in the Schiphol detenion prison fire) Rita Verdonk got booted out of the VVD after loosing a batle for the leadership of that party. She kept her seat in parlement and presented plans to start a new populist right-wing party. After a at first projected huge landslide win she is now losing ground rapidly in the polls after a series of financial scandals and poor media performances.

update: after a complete failure in the national- and a almost complete failure in the local elections TON recently disbanded

Nederlandse Volks Unie (NVU)
Dutch Peoples Union

• Since it currently as an active membership of only a few dozen the NVU draws a bizare lot of attention and time from the media and anti-fascist protesters. The Netherlands oldest (1971) still active extreme-right wing party is hardline Neo-Nazi but try's (and fails) to present it self as a nationalist. They compensate their lack of electorate success with regular marches which draw mostly crowds of ANS/NSA and Blood&Honour activists (see below). Trying to keep both these neo-nazi anti-semites happy and maintaining some hopes on electoral votes, self proclaimed great Germanic leader Constant Kusters (a card carying psychopath and mother beater) finds himself caught between a rock and a hardplace, resulting in an bizarre mix of anti-imigration rhetoric and praise for muslim extremists groups like Al-Qaida, Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad. With his talent to pick fights with every possible ally Kusters rants and raves on the Stormfront forum are a constant source of entertainment for antifa-activists around the country. A look on the on-line store of the party gives a pretty good indication of what this lot is about.

Nationale Volks Beweging (NVB)
National Peoples Movement

• Formed as the result of the split of a split of a split, this fascist party styled on the WWII nazi collaborators of the NSB looked for a while very promising with its cadre of old and experienced activists, young enthusiastic rapid growing following and mild image. Yet after some efficient antifa actions and the suicide of the main organizer the party is in total shambles, unfortunately it seems the party will recover but its just a matter of time before the next split.

Autonome Nationaal Socialisten/Nationaal Socialistische Actie (ANS/NSA)

• This group, previously known as jeugdstorm (youthstorm), is the most vocal and a very vast growing thing in the netherlands. Official leaderless but de-facto led by (on and off imprisoned) upstart Alwin Walther who is under heavy influence of the prominent elderly national-bolshevic B&H/RVF activist Eite Homan. Under the thin cover of their bizarre mix of stolen leftwing actvist symbolism, tacticts, rethoric and slogans lies a firm brown pile of good old fashioned neo-nazism. They see themselves in the strasser/rohm/kuhnen tradition and form now a days the main part of NVU (see above) demonstrations. At these events they form a black-block and shout slogans about killing jews and glorifying SS-soldiers. As of late they also started organizing their own actions and demonstrations and have developed an unhealthy apatite of trying to seek confrontation with left-wing opponents, a hobby which regularly lands them in jail or hospital.

update: over the last months the NSA lost most of their support resulting from an combination of an aggressive EXIT campaign of the secret service and disagreement of the rank and file of the "leftist" course of the leadership.

Voorpost nederland

• Allthough still not as succesfull as its Belgian sister oganisation Voorpost this group is busy with a fast and steady growth after years of demise. Being harcore fascist dutch nationalists they campaing for the "anslusch" of dutch-speaking belgian flanders in a great "diets" country and against islamification, americasation and through their front group "met de dieren tegen de beesten"(with the animals against the beasts) they try to get an food hold in animal activism. Their slogan id "kameraadschap"(comradeship), "vorming"(teaching) and "strijd" (struggle) which has translated into small but media attention grabbing actions, lectures on a whole range of subjects and lots of barbeques and beer drinking in bars to strengthen bonds and haul in new recruits.

blood & honour - racial volunteer force (B&H/RVF)

• Hardline neo-nazi's with a fetish for terrorism and weapons, a steady group of about 10 members under the leadership of veteran, and good friend of Micheal Kuhnen; Eite Homan. Formaly known as Aktiefront Nationaal Socialisten and Combat-18-NL. Recently in stronger the picture thanx to their influence on the young nazi kiddo's of the new ANS/NSA and the arrest of (former) member Arris de Bruin for weapon and nailbombs posesion.

Blood & Honour (traditional)

• They drink beer, organize concerts and attack immigrants, your typical nazi-boneheads, maybe in absolute numbers the biggest nazi group in the netherlands but, unless you stumble in to them when they are in town getting boozed up, not the biggest big threat.

het aktiefront/nationaal socialisten der nederlanden

• stereotypical himler/SS loving nazi's but after a series of run ins with the law they mostly seem to resort to hiding in their bedrooms and relying on the 'elite' SS-keyboard-warrior division to fight their 'race war' and skulking round putting up stickers.

update: thanx to an influx of activists split from the NSA ^ over its "leftist" course this group has encountered finally some growth and began organizing concerts and cadre training sessions.
they developed reliable contacts with Flemish groups like the N-SA and became for now a constant in the fascist movement. If only they could decide about their name for longer then a week...

• A last group to mention are the turkish fascists of the Grey Wolves (related to the extreme nationalist MHP party in turkey), operating only in the circles of turkish immigrants they are off the radar of most antifascists but in absolute numbers they are huge. They proved their threat with a series of attacks on left wing turkish and kurdish actvists which resulted in several deaths.

Belgian Fascists

Vlaams Belang


Probably the most well-known party on the far right in the Benelux. Formerly Vlaams Blok (VB, in English: Flemish block)it was founded as a Flemish and conservative sectionalist party after a split from the Flemish Volksunie (VU, in English: people's union). It was made up of former collaborators, far-right extremists and other conservatives and after a short period of marginalization it achieved important electoral successes. Nowadays the party has probably reached its electoral limits (18-24%).
The party had and still has strong links with well-known fascist groupings like Voorpost, (ex-)VMO, NSV, etc. Some caders were recruted from these groups. We can quickly think of Philip (Filip) De Winter, Bruno Valkeniers or Frank Vanhecke. All 3 of them are leading figures of the party.
The party changed its name in 2004. Vlaams Blok became a forbidden organization, which urged its leaders and militants to found a "new" party: Vlaams Belang (VB, in English: Flemish Interest)

Voorpost


This group of fascist "security guards" are sometimes regarded "De Winter's personal gang of thugs" (In Dutch: "knokploeg"). So it resembles Hitler's SA (Sturmabteilung, in English: Storm devision). It is an international organization with organizations in The Netherlands, Flanders and South-Africa.

Nieuw-Solidaristisch Alternatief (N-SA)


This small but radical group of fascists closely resemble the NSDAP before it took power: it is anti-capitalist, anti-communist, anti-liberal, etc. In short: it is national socialist (called (nationaal-)solidarisme among Flemish national-socialists). It is actually a recent regrouping of several small radical organizations in Flanders like Vlaamse Jongeren Westland (VJW, in English: Flemish Youngsters Westland) and Vlaamse Jongeren Noordland. It has its criticisms of Vlaams Belang, but there are visible links between both organizations, mainly through Filip De Winter and the Nationalistisch Studentenvereniging (NSV, in English: Nationalist Students Organization). Because of the close resemblance to Hitler's NSDAP some on the left call this organization the "New SA" (NSA).

Nationalistische Studentenvereniging (NSV)


(In English: Nationalist Students Organization) Most recently they started a new objective together with Filip De Winter and Vlaams Belang: getting accepted in universities. In the eyes of many conservatives universities are regarded bastions of the left. Filip De Winter succeeded in many cases, though only the university of Ghent managed to keep the NSV out, yet liberal and conservative student organizations opt for the admission of the NSV.
Called the youth organization of Vlaams Belang NSV shares the same routes with the party. The newly (2008) appointed leader of VB, Bruno Valkeniers, was a member of this youth organization.
Each year it organizes a demonstration in a university city of choice. Called the NSV demonstration for Flemish independence it mostly gathers all kinds of conservative and fascist elements, mostly from Vlaams Belang, Voorpost and NSV itself.

Nationaal Jongstudenten Verbond (NJSV)


A siamese twin of NSV and N-SA (in English: Nationalist Young-Students Organisation). There are different groups in Flanders which have similar names and similar fascist ideologies. This one became famous because of De Winter.

Front National (FN)


This is the French-speaking counterpart of Vlaams Belang. It is yet a marginal organization, which has suffered from many splits and scandals. It is a actually a failed but radical copy of its French sister organization which has Lepen as leading figure.

Blood and Honor Vlaanderen


Blood and Honor in Flanders suffered from some serious problems. A split in its ranks of the one section made the group incompetent. I say one section because untill recently there were two blood and honors in Flanders: Mitgard and Vlaanderen. Now there are several more sections.
It mostly organizes meetings and private concerts, while it is also known for organizing terrorism and racism. A few years ago a member was caught in the army for organizing possible terrorist attacks against the government.

US Fascists

Klu Klux Klan (KKK)

• Any group that calls it leader a 'Grand Wizard' and wear bedsheets are a joke to me but cover them we must: The KKK are the name synonomous with American rascists, infamous for a violent history of lynching and torture, the KKK is certainly an organisation with a lot of blood on it's hands. This organisation stands as evidence that inbreeding is not the best way to create a new master race. Still a threat in the USA due to the history of the organisation pulling violent rascists into its fold, not a threat politically in the USA due to the fact many small groups claim to be 'the klan' but will little cohesion between them. The group are sure to love their new President, and one assasination plot by alleged 'klan' members has already been rumbled.

The National Alliance

• A group that proclaimed Adolf Hitler as "the greatest man of our era", and who propagate that a 'race war' is enevitable in the USA due to rapidly changing demographics and increasing Hispanic, Black, Asian populations. Massively anti-semetic and anti-Israel they claim that 9/11 was in fact a ploy by Mossad in order to get the US to fight its wars in the Middle east. They claim that the white race is now a minority group in their 'own country' (nobody told the natives that one) which makes their chance of success in their race war look pretty bleak. Poor Nazis.

The Nation Of Islam (NOI)

• The group Malcom X left when he saw sense, and the group that killed him for it. Not 'fasicsts' as such more Black-Supremacists the NOI is rightly labelled as anti-semetic, homophobic, and as rascists. The NOI could be seens a black counter-part for American Nazis; George Lincoln Rockwell was famously pictured attending a NOI meeting in full nazi regalia due the common ground they held on racial segregation and self determination.

New Black Panther Party (NBPP)

• An insult to their forebearers/namesakes and the struggle they were a part of. Despite the name, it is a completely independent of the original Black panthers, Aaron Michaels called the group "wannabe Panthers". Rather than drawing their analysis from Marxism/Maoism, the group bases it's philosophy on Ethnic Nationalism and Black Supremacy. The party is anti-white and anti-semitic and has been labelled a Black-Racist hate group by the Poverty-Law centre.

American Nazi Party

• Exactly what it says on the tin, these clever sorts are a bunch of brown-shirted, swastika sporting, goose-stepping Nazis. This party is a combination of fascists, uniform fetishitists, Aryan Nationalist types, a sprinkling of nazi boneheads and the rest of the political detritus you find at the fringes of the far right. The ANP have not fielded a presidential candidate since George Lincoln Rockwell stood in 1964. Rockwell was killed by a disgruntled supporter of the party in 1967, however the ANP themselves are certain the murder was the fault of the Jews, what a suprise. The parties members were strongly linked with the Greensboro Massacre 1979, when, in conjuction with the KKK, they shot at and killed 5 African Americans, the party however apparently denounces violence and intimidation.

National Socialist Movement

• The NSM is yet another of the several odious splinter parties seemingly created in recent years from the remnants of the old American Nazi Party of the early 1960s. "We co-operate and work with many like minded white nationalist groups such as the KKK (Ku Klux Klan), Aryan Skinheads, the Racial Nationalist Party of America and many others which are either neo Nazi or at least, racially aware of our Aryan Heritage," explains the NSM website. The NSM claims to be the largest Nazi party in the US (but so do all the other neo-Nazi splinter groups). The NSM fielded its first candidate, Adolf worshipping Brian Holland, in 2008. Their website boldly claims they are willing to lay down their lives for the Aryan Cause, so don't feel too bad if you ever have to beat one to death.

Jewish Defence League (JDL)

• Jewish-fascist organization that conducts anti-Communist and anti-Arab terrorist and paramilitary activity. Called by the FBI "a violent extremist Jewish Organization", statistics show that from 1980 through 1985, of the 18 terrorist attacks in the U.S. committed by Jews; 15 of those by members of the JDL. Recent power stuggles following the death of its founder in 2002 have greatly divided and weakened the JLD.

Hammerskins

• No not a band of iron bodied super heros, nor a Pink-Floyd fan group but rather a white-supremacist group created in Dallas in 1988. More like bonehead thugs than a political movement, their activity includes masturbating over Vikings and Nazis, but also violent attacks on 'non-aryans'. Apart from mindless violence against lone targets the group is not organised for actions and has splintered, many of these splinters now being defunct.

National Anarchists (US)

• National Anarchism is an oxymoron. They do not share our common goals; do not be tricked by these people. It seems more and more closet fascists are taking this name to try and push there agenda. They try and sound rational and fair, and talk constantly about tribes and community, but in reality these words are just fancy terms used to conceal their hatred for Israel, African Americans and homosexuals. The SPLC has recently labeled them a "hate group". They couldn't care less about working class struggles and instead are promoting an obviously racist initiative called the "white cross" to presumably help the homeless in there area. They are in North Carolina, New York but California mostly. The main groups in California are called "wank", "lana", "snac" and "bana". By far the most active is BANA or bay area national anarchists, which isn’t saying much. Snac is a close second with them seeming being the first group to go on the "white cross" patrols. There tactics are posting you tube videos and blog posts. Using the name Anarchy to promote there hatred is beyond me, and worse yet they seem to be growing, slowly but steadily and it doesn’t seem to me that anybody has done a thing about it. The crazy ideas started by Troy Southgate in England has now become a reality in California and it seems they have found themselves a niche there

White Aryan Resistance

• A White power organisation based in California. Founded by the bumbling has-been, Tom Metzger, ex grand wizard of the KKK. Now little more than a website full of rascist jokes (them, boom boom) and a 'newsletter' they proudly hail as "the most racist newspaper on earth", it has not been confirmed whether or not the Daily Mail will sue them for this claim.

Aryan Brotherhood

• The Aryan Brotherhood, also known as the AB or The Brand, is a white prison gang rumoring about 15,000 members in and out of prison. In March 2006, four leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood were indicted for numerous crimes, including murder, conspiracy, drug trafficking, racketeering, and dog fighting. According to the FBI, although the gang makes up less than 1% of the prison population, it is responsible for up to 26% of murders in the federal prison system. Of late the Brand, in true fascist style, has slackened its own ideology in order to make a greater profit from dealings with gangs of non-white memberships. Libertarian National Socialist Green Party

• Politically correct Nazis? These Libertarian Green Nazis are either the strangest conglomeration of diametrically opposed political ideologies of a political party I have ever seen -- or one of the most wry political practical jokes found anywhere on the net (I'm not certain which conclusion is correct, but I strongly suspect the latter). This party purports to be comprised of atheist, peaceful, pro-gay, pro-drug legalization, anti-racist, environmentalist Nazis who acknowledge the Holocaust likely occurred (but are neutral as to its justification) and oppose the government sponsored killing of Jews, Christians & gays and the disabled. The LNSGP "rejects Judeo-Christian moral standards, victim mentality political behavior, capital-centric value systems, and authority." While membership is open to anyone regardless of their race or sexual orientation, individuals who openly profess a belief in either Judaism or Christianity are denied party membership. Not to be taken too seriously as they think that the Nazis built a secret moon base in 1942. But then again its not like we expect nazis to be intelligent.

US September 2011 update

Northeast White Pride (NEWP)

--Loosely organized group, including lone wolves, based in the North East. Started in 2003, with limited activity (other than lots of posts on their message board) since then, public actions usually draw less than 25 supporters, and generally occur in the Massachusetts area.

Outlaw Hammerskins

--Formed around 1999 or 2000, an offshoot of the Hammerskin nation. Several individual members and whole crews left the HSN to form the OHS, most infamous for showing up to “Nordic Fest” (the main activity for which the HSN is known, a racist music festival), in a van with a lot of guns, they were refused entrance, and so they fired their weapons into the air and left. After this, the HSN lost a lot of popularity, as many of those involved aligned with the OHS or became independent, the OHS did however dissolve (around 2002), and now are organized in the Vinlander Social Club, and the “State Skinhead” crews.

State Skinhead Crews

--With the dissolution of the OHS, they fell directly into the “State Skinhead Crews”, the first were “Hoosier State Skinheads” and “Ohio State Skinheads”, these crews were started over a large number of states, the largest resided in Pennsylvania, under the name “Keystone State Skinheads” (now known as Keystone United, which claims to not be white power). The state skinhead crews went on to form/affiliate with the Vinlander Social Club/Blood & Honor (the C18 aligned faction).

Vinlander Social Club

--Formed in 2003, the VSC is an outgrowth of the OHS and the State Skinhead Crews, it is aligned with Blood & Honor/C18, while the Hammerskins/Volksfront are aligned with Blood & Honor Worldwide. The VSC are more or less the “big dogs” of the WP scene in the US. They have some of the oldest, most committed, and most violent members of the scene, some of whom have been involved since the late 70’s and early 80s. The VSC promotes itself as a cultural organization, and has strong ties to the Odinist/Pagan movement.


Council of Conservative Citizens

--An outgrowth of the “White Citizens’ Councils”, which was a mass organization (over 60,000 members) that promoted the segregationist cause in the 1950s-1980s. The CoCC is considerably smaller, but is viewed as a somewhat respectable organization within the conservative/paelo-conservative movement, and has ties to the republican and democratic parties. It has been capable of mobilizing several hundred protestors in the southern United States. While its members are not particularly well known for violence, its threat lies in its popularity; even mainstream conservatives such as Ann Coulter have defended the organization.

A (very) brief guide to the contemporary Australian far right

Recently I’ve received several requests for a guide to the Australian far right. Below is a very brief summary of most (but not all) of those groups and projects which I think can reasonably be placed in this category. I’ll add further detail and perhaps some links when I get a chance



Anti-Antifa Australia
A project of neo-Nazi skinhead and Brisbane resident Chris Smith, AAF exists largely as an attempt to monitor and expose anti-fascists in Australia, details of which are published on Smith’s blog. Smith has a criminal record for robbery and assault.


Australia First Party (AF)
AF is the largest and most well-established of the far-right groups. Founded in 1996 by former Labor MP Graeme Campbell, AF is currently having its federal registration reviewed by the AEC. Dr James Saleam is the party’s current leader, a position he assumed a few years after being let out of prison for organising a shotgun assault upon the home of Eddie Funde (then the African National Congress representative in Australasia). Previously, Saleam was the leader of neo-Nazi group National Action and in the late 1960s/early 1970s a member of the Australian Nazi Party. The party regularly contests elections and its HQ is in Sydney — where it has the largest following. Two AF reps have been elected to local council (Bruce Preece in Adelaide and Maurice Girotto in Penrith – both resigned their memberships following their elections). Saleam and other party members frequently post on Stormfront (the world’s leading neo-Nazi/White supremacist website) and occasionally on Daily Stormer (another US-based neo-Nazi site).


Australian Defence League (ADL)
The ADL formed within the space of a year following the establishment of the English Defence League in 2009. Gaining only a fraction of the support the EDL did, the ADL has undergone numerous splits, fractures and changes in leadership, but of those who’ve nominated themselves its leader Martin Brennan and Ralph Cerminara – along with Nathan Abela – are probably the best-known, along with Shermon Burgess (‘The Great Aussie Patriot’). There have been dozens of Facebook pages created by and for the ADL and it exists as a very loose network of anti-Muslim activists. Sporadic public rallies in Melbourne and Sydney have been poorly-attended but the group has been very active on social media.


Australian Liberty Alliance (ALA)
A yet-to-be-launched political party modelled on Geert Wilders’ Dutch party — largely the creation of The Q Society.


Australian Patriots Defence Movement (APDM)
Est by Darren Beatle Bailey-Morris, the APDM is (was) a short-lived, Brisbane-based project very similar to the ADL and PDLA. The APDM is largely defunct but may continue to eke out an existence online and has most recently been invoked as a supporting organisation to the UPF.


Australian Protectionist Party (APP)
The APP formed as a split from AF in 2007 when one of its Sydney branches – the two most prominent members of which were Nicholas (Hunter) Folkes and Darrin Hodges – elected to defect. It was active for a few years, producing propaganda and holding events, but is now largely moribund. Tasmanian Andrew Phillips is its leader.


Blood & Honour (B&H)
B&H is a neo-Nazi musical network, originally est in England in the late 1980s, and has been operating in Australia for over 20 years. Activities are generally confined to selling neo-Nazi muzak and merch (via 9% Productions) and holding gigs. It functions essentially an adjunct to the SCHS.


Christian Identity (CI)
CI is a tiny sect on the fringes of the far right with a handful of adherents and a miniscule social media presence. One, James Lawrence, popped up at the May 31 UPF rally.


Combat 18 (C18)
C18 is another foreign import, having its origins in England in the late 1980s. The group was est in order to protect B&H gigs and other fascist events from disruption by anti-fascists and has a rather bloody history. It’s widely suspected that it was infiltrated by British intelligence on account of the close relationship b/w C18 and Ulster paramilitaries. In Australia, the ‘brand’ has been adopted by a number of different neo-Nazis including in WA, where C18 was responsible for a poorly-executed attack upon a mosque (see Bradley Trappitt). AFAIK, its only active ‘branch’ currently is in Melbourne under Patrick O’Sullivan.


Creativity
A bizarre, White supremacist ‘religion’ est in the US some decades ago. It’s undergone numerous, often violent splits: its main exponent in Australia is Colin Campbell (Adelaide) and Patrick O’Sullivan (Melbourne). Scott Harrison was a ‘Reverend’ in the ‘church’ for many years before joining the Young Liberals.


Eureka Youth League (EYL)
AF’s yoof wing; largely inactive.


European Australian Civil Rights League (EARL)
A one-man band est a few years ago by Melbourne-based neo-Nazi activist Neil Erikson. EARL later morphed into NRG. Erikson has a criminal conviction for harassing and a Melbourne rabbi and was close to the ‘Crazy White Boys’, a short-lived neo-Nazi group responsible for badly beating Vietnamese student Minh Duong in 2012.


Full Blooded Skips (FBS)
A White yoof gang based in Melbourne which emerged shortly after the SCS, the FBS are closely-linked to NRG and a shifting network of neo-Nazi skinheads. Several FBS members were present at the April 4 Reclaim Australia rally in Melbourne and the May 31 UPF rally in Richmond.


Golden Dawn (GD)
Golden Dawn is the Australian branch of the Greek neo-Nazi party. Its chief spokesperson in Australia is Iggy Gavrilidis. GD has a very small support base in Melbourne and Sydney and over the last few years has raised funds for its parent body and organised a handful of protests in conjunction with AF and a smattering of local neo-Nazis and fascists.


Nationalist Alternative (NAlt)
NAlt is a neo-Nazi group which has its origins in anti-Muslim agitation in Melbourne. Its leader is Mark Hootsen, who has travelled to the US in order to receive political training with Stormfront . NAlt was present at the April 4 Reclaim Australia rally in Melbourne.


National Democratic Party of Australia
NPDA was launched by UPF activist Blair Cottrell following the April 4 RA rally. Based in Melbourne, the group is tiny but active. Cottrell is a neo-Nazi who believes in a Jewish conspiracy to control the world, is a Holocaust denialist, recommends Mein Kampf be read by every Australian school student and claims to have been imprisoned for arson.


Nationalist Republican Guard (NRG)
NRG is EARL rebranded and since the beginning of 2015 has worked closely with Reclaim Australia, UPF and Shermon Burgess in order to produce agitprop promoting these groups and individuals.


New Right (/National Anarchists) (NR)
The New Right emerged in the mid- to late-2000s as a project of Sydney-based fascist Welf Herfurth – Herfurth envisaged NR as the theoretical expression of ‘national anarchism’, a tendency on the far-right with origins in the UK fascist movement. It has produced some propaganda, staged a few publicity stunts, and attracted a handful of neo-Nazis (ex. Bradley Trappitt) and other fascists to its banner but is currently largely inactive.


One Nation Party (ONP)
Party for Freedom (PfF)
Modelled on Geert Wilders’ Dutch party, PfF is what happened when the Sydney branch of APP decided to hold a public rally demanding that the Australian government blow up refugee boats. APP disavowed the action and so the Sydney branch of APP decamped to form PfF. It holds regular events in Sydney but has no discernible support outside of it. Chief spokesperson is Nicholas (Hunter) Folkes.


Patriotic Youth League (PYL)
The PYL was est in the early 2000s as the yoof wing of AF. It was not a successful venture and collapsed a few years later to be replaced by the EYL.


Patriots Defence League of Australia (PDLA)
An ADL splinter, the PDLA is largely a Facebook creation, with numerous, very small branches across the country which hold semi-regular, private meetings. In its latest incarnation, the PDLA was established as an incorporated association (Australian Defence League) which later changed its name to PDLA. Mark Lenthall, TJ (Torin) O’Brien and Daniel Sutcliffe are its current office bearers. Also prominent is John Oliver of Newcastle, who helped organise and spoke at the Reclaim Australia rally in Newcastle on April 4.


Q Society
The Q Society is an anti-Muslim propaganda group which functions as the ideological ballast for the anti-Muslim movement in Australia and largely consists of educated, middle class, bigots.


Reclaim Australia
Largely the brainchild of online activist and ADL member Shermon Burgess (‘The Great Aussie Patriot’), RA was the first anti-Muslim project of its kind to generate anything more than minimal public interest and to successfully mobilise anti-Muslim networks. Its April 4 rallies attracted several thousand supporters who attended over a dozen rallies across the country to which the largest and most effective opposition was in Melbourne. Following April 4, RA split and Burgess est the UPF. RA’s next series of anti-Muslim rallies is scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 18/19. Currently, RA’s online activities are largely directed by Bendigo businesswoman and anti-Muslim activist (‘Stop the Mosque in Bendigo’) Monika Evers.



Restore Australia
Another one-man band, Restore Australia is the political vehicle of Queensland-based anti-Muslim activist Mike Holt. Holt/Restore Australia is part of a shifting network of anti-Muslim activists, largely active online on sites like Facebook.


Rise Up Australia Party (RUAP)
The political vehicle of Christian fundamentalist Pastor Danny Nalliah (‘Catch the Fire Ministeries’) who is perhaps best known for blaming abortion on the Victorian bushfires of 2009. Recently, RUAP has entered into an alliance with RA and the UPF.


Southern Cross Hammerskins (SCHS)
SCHS is the Australian franchise of neo-Nazi skinhead gang the Hammerskins. It was introduced into Australia 20+ years ago via Scott McGuinness, the lead singer in neo-Nazi band Fortress (now defunct). The Hammerskins last came to world attention when in 2012 one of its members, Wade Michael Page, shot dead six worshippers at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin.



Southern Cross Soldiers (SCS)
A short-lived yoof gang from Melbourne which came to public attention following the police murder of Tyler Cassidy in 2010. The group has been re-invoked by Shermon Burgess as a supporter of the UPF.


Squadron 88 (S88)
S88 is a tiny neo-Nazi group based in Sydney. Its titular head is Ross ‘The Skull’ May, an ageing bonehead and one of Dr Jim Saleam’s closest allies. S88 has organised a protest against the construction of a mosque in Penrith and has obtained some small media traction via stuffing letterboxes in Sydney with badly-composed anti-Semitic tracts.


United Australian Front (UAF)
A new player on the far right block, the UAF brings together many of the leading organisers of RA and UPF. Its members were present at the RA rally of April 4 and UPF rally of May 31 sporting UAF merch.


United Patriots Front (UPF)
A recent split from RA, the UPF brings together neo-Nazis, fascists, White supremacists and Christian fundamentalists and conceives of itself as the Antipodean expression of various European fascist parties and movements. It organised an unsuccessful rally in Richmond on May 31 to protest socialism; the rally attracted around 50-70 participants. On June 27, the UPF staged a tiny rally outside ABC HQ in Melbourne to protest Islam and the presence of Zaky Mallah on the previous week’s episode of Q&A. Members present were Troy Bloodstone, Warren Broadhead, Blair Cottrell, Neil Erikson, Rod Mathers, Chris Shortis, Thomas Sewell and Linden Watson.


Volksfront (VF)
VF is another neo-Nazi skinhead organisation, a US import which was active for several years but whose current status is unknown. Its parent body in the US was declared dissolved after the massacre by VF associate Wade Michael Page. Its principal activist is Chris Smith (Anti-Antifa Australia) and while active VF worked closely with the NR (Welf Herfurth).


White Pride Coalition of Australia (WPCA)
The WPCA was est in the early 2000s as a coalition of neo-Nazi and White supremacist groups. It was eventually disbanded but briefly re-emerged last year before disappearing again. Prominent members include(d) neo-Nazis Peter Campbell (Sydney) and Jim Perren (Brisbane). Both men are responsible for the ‘Whitelaw Towers’ blog.


Women for Aryan Unity (WAU)
In Australia, WAU is a tiny group very closely associated with the SCHS. Recently, it raised funds to support the Azov battalion in the Ukraine, to which many neo-Nazis and other fascists across Europe have been drawn.
