I was shocked to learn that Canada bans satellite dishes. In a free country I think it as absolutely ridicules that it would be illegal to have a dish up on your roof. Maybe some of our Canadian friends can enlighten us as to the rational behind this law.

I have my suspicions is that but I’d like to here an explanation from one of you guys.

Seriously, I have relatives who are experts at sattellite hacking. It's not something I'd personally do, yet, but it is still quite convienent.

Piracy, you think that’s the reason? Dozens of people that have an illegal cable hook ups. Besides the cable companies in Canada are privately owned correct. So presumably Canadian Satellite broadcasters would also be privately owned and operated. I see no reason why the government would want to get into the business of providing the service when they don’t do it with cable or regular broadcasting. So why would they care if some private company goes bankrupt trying to provide a service that is non-existent in Canada? If the people don’t want to pay for it and it fails so be it no skin of the governments back, right. Why go out of their way and pass a law deeming it unacceptable. Something more is going on here it just doesn’t add up.
