Default In Defense of Lost Causes

Slavoj Zizek's new book In Defense of Lost Causes is now out in hardcover and should be read by all radicals (this coming from someone to the left of Zizek).

I just received it in the mail today, I ordered it off of Amazon.com, and will likely be spending a large portion of the rest of today reading it. I've read the introduction and so far it is, of course, superb.

Here is Zizek on Democracy Now! yesterday (5-12-08):

I wasn't very impressed with the DemocracyNow interview, I thought he came across as dismissive of the suffering of the Palestinians (being deprived of water is not an annoyance) and of pandering to a lot of bourgeois prejudices, such as refusing to support anti-imperialist movements, taking the neo-cons at their owrd over Iraq, and overstating quality of life in the US, etc. He effectively thinks there can be no effective resistance to global capitalism from the thrid world, he sees this as an oedipal quest and doomed to failure. He is very eurocentric.

Having said that, I'm very interested in some of his theories, and like his stuff on cinema especially (yep, I guess I'm a pervert) so I might just see if I can buy it. However much there is to criticise, Slavoj is an extremely intelligent and enetertaining thinker.

Lenin’s internationalism is by no means a form of reconciliation of Nationalism and Internationalism in words but a form of international revolutionary action. The territory of the earth inhabited by so-called civilized man is looked upon as a coherent field of combat on which the separate peoples and classes wage gigantic warfare against each other. No single question of importance can be forced into a national frame.
