Unions used to be places where members talked over the 'big picutre"
Then, somewhere around 1950, they stopped. Union big wigs began the Union-Government-CIA corporatism that was so characteristic of the Cold War.
In my opinion, Unions are much weaker because of this fuastian bargain, that one labor historian calles "the treaty of Detroit after the GM contract of the 195O.
Here is a good illustration of the problem with specific reference to the the AFT.
I have coined the term Bocca-Unions for Unions like the UFT in NYC that pay the leadership huge amounts of cash, are systematically corrupt, and meet over filet mignon in Bocca to sell the rank and file down the river.
I am storngly pro-Union. I am against many union leaders, who have been coopted since around 1950. Let us all SNAP OUT OF IT!
