Just got back from one of the best anti-fascist actions ever for numerous reasons. Firstly, because we managed to disrupt and essentially call an end to a BNP public meeting outside of Nottingham where Nick Griffin was speaking. We blockaded the gates and stopped people from getting in; the police attempted to wedge through but failed miserably. They then attempted to use another smaller gate to let people in but we scuffled with the police essentially making them block the gate. In the end the police decided it just wasn't worth trying to let people in and so stopped doing so. In the end there were about 10 people in the meeting and about 60 of us outside making lots of noise.
Secondly, the other great thing about it was there were so many people from varying groups who stood together in solidarity. Although the SWP district organiser dominated the mega-phone there were AWL, AF, SWP and animal rights activists there. Which I thought all in all was pretty cool.
There was an old lady who came to join the blockade who was local. She got pushed over by the police who suddenly looked very sheepish once they realised what they did. They generally overreacted but this was because, in my opinion, they didn't have any training to deal with this kind of thing.
It was a big victory and a job well done all round.
Awesome! Great job comrade
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.
Congrats!
It goes one for the student who refuses to submit and two for the teacher who is under-paid as shit, and three for the strikes who give young bloods life and four for the years you spent stifled inside.

What's the matter Lagerboy, afraid you might taste something?
Wicked, I dont' suppose you saw any of the reading lot there? One of us is originally from nottingham and I believe she is there now.

"How you cling to your purity, young man! How afraid you are to soil your hands! All right, stay pure! What good will it do? Why did you join us? Purity is an idea for a yogi or a monk. You intellectuals and Bourgeois anarchists use it as a pretext for doing nothing. To do nothing, to remain motionless, arms at your sides, wearing kids gloves. Well, I have dirty hands. Right up to the elbows. I've plunged them in the filth and blood. But what do you hope? Do you think you'll govern innocently?"-Jean-Paul Sartre
I'm afraid there are no pictures that I can find. There is a shitty BBC website report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/notting...ire/default.stm
And no, I didn't see any reading people there. No one I recognised at least.
I found an AWL report: http://www.workersliberty.org/node/9379
But no pictures I'm afraid.
I wanna buy that old lady a pint.

I was in Nottingham just two weeks ago as well - terrible timing on my part.
It seems we have succeeded in making the fash a little bit jumpy.
EDIT: It seems like they have removed the thread that discusses this action. Possibly because the defeat of it was more than they could handle.
if you look at the BNP website they've not been too quick to add it to their news bulletins anyway! The last article relevant to Nottingham is dated 1st October and even that is mostly full of the usual anti-student ad hominems!
