Why do some people go and use up all of London's police to go and protest about soemthing that won't change. Thoses people took up all the police in London and for what. Getting your photo taken and getting a police record. Go and get change at the ballet boxes not by wasting polices time and money. People pay for a portest that has achived nothing. What a waste.

I agree with you in part that police time should not be wasted, they are hard pressed as it is dealing with criminals. But we cannot express our views with the ballot, many of use aren't old enough to vote but others don't feel represented by the main political parties.

Protests aren't a waste of time though, they get people involved in the struggle and grab media attention. Which is always good as long as it is positive.

    Maintain the struggle! Peace!

Kamo, the organisers of a protest have to inform the police of a demonstration, if they don't then there is the likelihood of wide ranging arrests. If you tell the police when it is for and how many people you expect it is then up to their discretion on the number of officers that they said. I think that the average police officer does a lot of good work but I dont like the bureaucy that follows them and how the high ranking officers work directly for the government instead of the people.

The police get screwed over so much, they get crap pay, poor conditions and they still manage to do a decent job. I have a lot of respect for the average bobby on the beat. It's the higher powers that piss me off!

The RUC are racist, lucky that they will soon be disbanded and replaced with a unified force. But police logistically can't strike, think about it. If they did would you prefer to have the army patrolling ... ?

I think theyve already disbanded, but now they are just under a different name, same old bigot policemen/women who are protestants smashing up catholics.
The british army would probably be more fdair than RUC, although it wouldnt be peace time, and it would undermine the efforts of the people of Ireland

I'm glad that the RUC is being broken up, it is so intollerant to the wishes of ALL of the citizens of Northern Ireland. It only concentrated on the issues of protestants. There were allegations that some officers were informers for the UVF, I don't know how true this is. But behind every story or myth there is always some truth.

Kamo, you may be pleased to know that the Metropolitan police are threatening to go on strike over the comments that Blunkett has made about them and his poor offer of a wage increase. He called them lazy and the reason for so many problems in the capital. Hopefully they will show him!

I think I may have phrased the last bit of that post incorrectly, they can't really show him, ooops. Bit of a mistake there, sorry.

Being from Belfast, I think I shouyld be able to say that the RUC have officially changed to the PSNI. Officially. However they still wear the same badge and are still the same Loyalist bigots they always were.

There have been stories that around 150 Catholics have joined the new force (calling them police is a joke). These Catholics however are of middle- and upper-class status and are the same types of dickheads who worked in the prisons and had to be extra tough on Republican prisoners to prove themselves to their Protestant coworkers.

There's a book that was released, written by Bobby Sands (he led and was the first to die in the 1981 Hunger Strikes), called "One Day In My Life" and describes the torture the Republican prisoners were forced to endure.

Believe me, this new service means sweet fuck all to working-class Catholics/Nationalists/Republicans. A partitionist force set up for the protection of Unionists will never be accepted.
