Technical Help

You can access the Che-Lives live chat easily with the Java chat client by clicking on 'Live Chat' at the top right of the screen (number next to the link indicates the current number of users in the chat including the channel bot). This will connect you to the chat room within a few seconds. Make shure Java is installed on your computer, if it isn't installed you can get it HERE. Note that you can only enter the chat room once your nick is being registered, just click the checkbox on the chat login page for that.

However, a much better method to connect to the live chat is to run an IRC client directly on your desktop.

To install this on a Windows computer, follow the instructions below.

1. Download the appropriate IRC client software.
mIRC is recommended

2. Install (run the .exe).

3. Start program.

Follow these steps:

4a. "File"
4b. "Select server..."
4c. "Add"
4d. Description = Che-Lives
4e. IRC Server = irc.che-lives.com
4f. Port = 6667
4g. Password = your chat password of choice (see 7.)
4h. click "Add"

5. Edit any remaining fields to reflect your preferences.

6. With Che-Lives selected as the server to which you wish to connect, click "connect to IRC server."

7. If this is the first time you are using the Live Chat, you have to register your nickname using NickServ, enter the following commands into the status window:

/msg NickServ REGISTER password
and than

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY password
to identify to NickServ.


Please note that you won't be able to enter the channel unless you have registered your nickname!

8. Enter /join #che-lives to enter the main channel.

Che-Lives runs a fully functional IRC server. Advanced IRC users also have the possibility to use all IRC functions on the server such as opening your own chat channels, private chat sessions etc.
