My philosophy teacher said that Lenin had made the revolution by killing women and children in churches: Lenin would have made the revolution by scaring the population.

I didn't believe that but I'm not a specialist of the Russian Revolution and my teacher criticizes capitalism a lot so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I searched the net but found nothing that said that Lenin had killed women and children in churches.

That would be great if you could tell me if it's true or not and if you could give me useful informations about how the revolution was made: it would probably lead to a debate so I need to know my stuff. Thanks a lot in advance.

The Russian Revolution was really an enormously bitter civil war...in which as many as 10 million people died, most from disease and hunger.

In the course of that conflict, 1918-1921, it is nearly certain that both revolutionaries and counter-revolutionaries, on at least a few occasions, died in battle within or close by churches...in many small Russian villages, the church was the sturdiest structure around, so it served as a fortress for one side or the other.

(The famous "Alamo" in Texas was actually a church...so it's happened in the U.S. as well.)

Camarade du Che, your philosophy teacher appears to know nothing about the history of the Russian Revolution. Perhaps that is excusable; it's not "his field". But a responsible educator should know better than to make off-hand remarks out of total ignorance.

Perhaps the classic book on the subject is Edward H. Carr's The Russian Revolution: from Lenin to Stalin (ISBN 0029051401)...any good public library should have it.

I had an English teacher tell me once that "the Bolsheviks destroyed Russian culture." :cheesy:

One of the starting points of the revolution was International Womans Day. Lenin fought for the freedom and equality of woman, as do all marxists. It is the capitalist system that oppresses woman and makes them into objects to be bought, commodities to be traded in, possessions.

I asked him about it and he said that he had read that in a newspaper called "L'homme nouveau" some years ago. He said that he would give me more details about it.

Don't trust people who believe everything they read. I wouldn't count on hearing any realistic "Details".
