Hmn, not sure, but just to make this clear, are you talking about mass murderERS? 'Cause the thread title just says "mass murder". In which case it would have to be Hiroshima and Nagasaki because I think the definition means it has to happen more or less at the same time to be a "mass murder".

As for the individuals, it's pretty near impossible to determine for many reasons. How do you define responsibility for instance? If economic blunders count, Mao might make the list for example, but if it's willful murder that's the criteria then it makes Truman a tough candidate because he probably thought he was saving the world a lot of bloodshed.

Also, there are no reliable statistics on the Mongol invasions and even the other examples you mentioned have pretty shaky statistics behind them because of the general carnage taking place at the same time. Do you blame starvation in Russia and the Balkans in the forties on Hitler or Stalin for example?

I think this is pretty much a hopeless exercise...

Ghengis Khan, well that's according to the Guiness book of Records, unless Stalin did kill 50 million people.

But there's Mao who very likely kill ed more.

Ehm, screw the typo. My more important point was that this is an impossible exercise. It's like trying to determine who is the most peaceful leader in history or whatever. It's impossible to measure without some very strict artificially injected criteria.

Christ, I've spent too much time writing essays... anyway...

I have the mentality that all blacks who died in slavery died of slavery, so I'd have to say the genocide of blacks worldwide in the 17th-19th century ranks as my highest.

*sigh* I give up. I suppose it's not a pointless exercise if someone enjoys it, but it is impossible to get to the end of the process.

Let me know if you guys calculate all the digits of Pi too

Leopold is the biggest mass murderer of which there is proper evidence.Stalin could easily have killed more though.

Its supposedly gengis kahn, but i think it's impossible to mesure how much he killed. It's so long ago.

Not only is it impossible to measure how many Genghis killed, it is equally impossible to measure how many any of the other candidates "killed" unless we agree uppon a definition.

This is the last time I'm gonna say this

    Gengiss Khan is already down.
Appologies to DyerMaker, slavery is not really a viable killer. Though George Wahing ton, or Maddison is.
