I think the 30 years war was the point where fundamentalism was at its peak. It was the bloodiest war of its time, led to the end of the Middle-Ages and was the last "unjust war" fought until the world wars, which were racial/national/idealistic wars rather than religious ones.

Nationalism and religion make blind. Because most Christians are to proud of their religion they won't see that they did the same things. Most Jews are too proud to see that Samson once said: "Let me die with the enemy."
Let no one charge that socialists have arrayed class against class in this struggle. That has been done long since in the evolution of capitalist society. One class is small and rich and the other large and poor....One consists of capitalists and the other of workers. These two classes are at war. Every day of peace is at the expense of labor. There can be no peace and good will between these two essentially antagonistic economic classes. - Debs

Yeah, but the thing is that the crusades were between Christianity and other religions whereas the 30 years war was between different sects of Christianity, thats another reason why I think it was fundamentalism in its puresf form.

i agree, its strange that what is supposed to "save our souls" is the leading cause of wars.

Well, yeah but they were generally considered outcast whereas it was "normal" to be a fundamentalist in Europe during the 30 years war. Plus, the fundamentalist movement in the 1920's didn't butcher half a continent.

keep in mind the thirty years war started with a basis in religion but by then end we can see that it was only an excuse.

first it was the protestants vs. Catholics. by the end protestant and catholics were allied toghter to fight catholics allied with protestants.

this is why i'm not a fan of religion. people use it as an exuse for too many things.
