The IRA say they fight for the people of northen ireland to gain indndipendance but in a recent opinion pol 93% of the people said that they wanted to keep the union.

Also strangely for an group of freedom fighters they have the largest drug's ring in the U.K. They also have third largest illegal wepons smuggling ring in the world.

But what really fucking annoys me is when people say the only reason britain keeps N.Ireland is because we want an empire, thats shit, we volentarly gave most of are empire away. To name a few examples Hong Kong, Canada, Australia half of bloody India and asia!!! The only reason we still have N.Irelandf is because the vast majority of the people want this. I here so called communists on this site saying Britain keeps Ireland for colonial interests, but isnt communism about giving the people what they want, in terms of political freedom or have i missed something on the way.

The only reason the IRA still exists is beacause the BLOODY U.S GOVERNMENT FUNDS the dammed organisation. So if you dont like these simple facts fuck off, or post a convinsing argument!!!

    1) The IRA have always been the strongest anti-drug paramilitary in Ireland and have been responsible for numberous assassinations of drug dealers. Some people may argue that this is so that their own dealers can move in but I sincerely doubt it and I do not like the IRA at all.
    2) I have never seen anyone on this site claim that Britain still wants N Ireland to remain as part of the Union so that they can remain a colonial power.
There were two “Reigns of Terror,” if we would but remember it and consider it; the one wrought murder in hot passion, the other in heartless cold blood; the one lasted mere months, the other had lasted a thousand years; the one inflicted death upon ten thousand persons, the other upon a hundred millions; but our shudders are all for the “horrors” of the minor Terror, the momentary Terror, so to speak; whereas, what is the horror of swift death by the axe, compared with lifelong death from hunger, cold, insult, cruelty, and heart-break? What is swift death by lightning compared with death by slow fire at the stake? A city cemetery could contain the coffins filled by that brief Terror which we have all been so diligently taught to shiver at and mourn over; but all France could hardly contain the coffins filled by that older and real Terror... --- Mark Twain

    1. Most of the IRA members imprisoned are in for drug offences because that was all we could get them for.
    2. If you want to see people saying thet britain wants to be a colonial power look on Irish Holacaust page 1.

the IRA do fight for independance of NI but they alos make alot of money. They run huge drugs rackets, conterfiting cds, clothes etc, arms smuggling, and contefiting money. The Loyalist parlimilataries [UDA, UVF, UFF, LVF, RHC] also do all of this, today a huge some of copied money was found, made by loyalist organisations. The Ira gets lots of money sent by Irish-Americans who cannot even imagine how it is used, dragging men out of their homes and shooting them in front of their families, bombing town centres killing loads of innocent people.

Britain does not really give a shit about the NI. It is seen by most British people to be a colony, they really dont care about the people until the Ira bring their bombs over there. What did Tony Blair do after he had "sorted us out" with the Good Friday Agreement which has fallen to pieces? He fucked off thats what. NI recieves very little public funding compared to the rest of the UK and the cities are way behind. you think the transport services are bad in England? they really are bad over here.

AK, have you any proof of IRA involvement in drug rings. The IRA are well known to have a cover group known as Direct Action Against Drugs who have been responsible for many anti-drug beating and killings.
If you search for any links for the IRA ti drugs you'll find, if any, that they're linked to the smaller breakaway groups.

Happy Guy, Where the hell are you from if Britain doesnt care about N.I then why does britain still allow N.Irelnd in the union, even after the bombings in manchester. Also you say :- "It is seen by most British people to be a colony, they really dont care about the people until the Ira bring their bombs over there." but im English and i care all my friends in school care, most British people see N.Ireland like people in the U.S.A see other states in that union. Would you say that e.g Verginia is a colony of say Florida.

It was common practice back in the day that the IRA used to knee cap drug dealers. As for most people being jailed for drug trafficing, i simply can't see that, most have been jailed for murder or other terrorist activities.

Read some things from people who were there like Eamon Collins, a large part of the IRA for a time and he never once had any mention of drug trafficing or anyone being arrested for that, hell he was arrested for terrorist connections.

And as for the whole most people want to remain with the UK, well simply answered is this. While not wanting to get this into a religious issue, when asked most Catholics (like myself, though i live in the US but am part irish) are republicanists while most protestants are unionists.

I only mention this because in the next few years the number of catholics (according to surveys in which the catholic and therefore republicanits populations have been increasing every year) will outnumber protestants and therfore unionists, so the argument that the majority of those in N. Ireland want to remain in the UK will be mute and no longer a possible argument.

Hell unionist marches can't be held inside the walls of the cities there most times because the population there is catholic and therefore republicanist and the threat of violence is too great.

If you don't believe me about the whole catholics are mostly republicanists, talk to some over there. Talk to the N.Irish catholics who have been beaten up, murdered, assaulted, and discriminated against simply because they are catholic. Christ, catholic school girls have to have a police escort or they would be attacked! It's just reasoning and a look at how catholics there have been opressed for hundreds of years there to see that the argument that most if not all catholics are republicanists is valid.

Again i am not wanting to turn this into a religious argument, i'm just using what i know and am using it to better compare and contrast

AK47, you say that most people in Britain want NI to stay as part of hte Union, you are obviously not from Scotland then because most people here except for those bigotted few dont particularly give a fuck. I dont particularly care what happens there although I think every British soldier especially Scottish ones should be pulled out and leave NI to sort out its own problems

LOL! The US goverment funds the IRA?

Perhaps your not familiar with the millions of dollars and arms that the Soviet Union and Libya to name a few gave to the IRA to try and cause more problems for the English. The money that does come from the US to N. Ireland is from mainly deeply irish communities such as those on the east coast, but the US gov giving the IRA cash?

We've got better things to deal with than giving the IRA guns and money, the rest of the world does that for us thank you.

they can't be there are to many problems and threats still in ni to be able to do that it would leave it unsafe. i see your reasoning though, military occupation is a main cause of violence and sinn féin want to see them dismatling watchtowers and the like, the Ira would only decommission if that was to happen, oh well just one more of the many problems over here.

"I would like to point out most of the soldiers have been pulled out of northen ireland since the good friday agreement."

no not most, hardly 1/4. on the streets outside my school army jeeps go past nearly twice every half hour. there is always a helicopter in the sky and army walking the streets, the city is used as a training operation. there are still loads of watchtowers on the border and they are no longer needed but still operational.

anyway, back to the topic. the ira are fighting for the freedom and not the cash. small breakaway groups of the main organisation find it easy to be able to run drugs to make money to fund their cause. the main branch is quite anti-drugs doing kneecappings and assasinations. but the loyalist parlimilataries do seem to be more into the "mafia" style hoods operation.

There is no debate over that. The loyalist groups are far more dangerous and criminally involved then the IRA ever has or is likely to be.

    Poblacht na h-Eireann
The Provisional Government of the Irish Republic
    to the People of Ireland

Irishmen and Irishwomen: In the name of God and the dead generations from which she receives her old tradition of nationhood, Ireland, through us, summons her children to her flag and strikes for her freedom.

Having organized and trained her manhood through her secret revolutionary organisation, the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and through her open military organisations, the Irish Volunteers, and the Irish Citizen Army, having patiently perfected her discipline, having resolutely waited for the right moment to reveal itself, she now seizes that moment, and, supported by her exiled children in America and by gallant allies in Europe, but relying in the first on her own strength, she strikes in full confidence of victory.

We declare the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland, and to the unfettered control of Irish destinies, to be sovereign and indefeasible. The long usurpation of that right by a foreign people and government has not extinguished the right, nor can it ever be extinguished except by the destruction of the Irish people. In every generation the Irish people have asserted their right to national freedom and sovereignty; six times during the past three hundred years they have asserted it in arms. Standing on that fundamental right and again asserting it in arms in the face of the world, we hereby proclaim the Irish Republic as a sovereign independent state, and we pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades-in-arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare, and of its exaltation among the nations.

The Irish Republic is entitled to, and hereby claims, the allegiance of every Irishman and Irishwoman. The Republic guarantees religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens, and declares its resolves to pursue the happiness and prosperity of the whole nation and of all its parts, cherishing all the children of the nation equally, and oblivious of the differences carefully fostered by an alien government, which have divided a minority from the majority in the past.

Until our arms have brought the opportune moment for the establishment of a permanent national government, representative of the whole people of Ireland, and elected by the suffrages of all her men and women, the Provisional Government, hereby constituted, will administer the civil and military affairs of the Republic under the protection of the Most High God, whose blessing we invoke upon our arms, and we pray that no one who serves the cause will dishonour it by cowardice, inhumanity, or rapine. In this supreme hour the Irish Nation must, by its valor and discipline, and by the readiness of its children to sacrifice themselves for the common good, prove itself worthy of the August destiny to which it is called.

Signed on behalf of the provisional government:
Thomas J. Clarke, Sean Mac Diarmada, Thomas MacDonagh, P. H. Pearse, Eamonn Ceannt, James Connolly, Joseph Plunkett

Most gun attacks on police are by loyalists

    (Barry McCaffrey, Irish News)

Loyalist paramilitaries are thought to have carried out up to three times as many gun attacks on security forces this year as republicans.

The figures for gun attacks on the security forces come just days after the UDA warned that it was considering an offensive against police, claiming that the PSNI was using heavy-handed tactics against loyalists while ignoring republican violence.

But police statistics show that loyalists have already been responsible for a series of gun attacks on police before the weekend warning.

A PSNI spokesman last night revealed that there have been 18 gun attacks on police in the last 12 months.

While police were unable to provide statistics on how many attacks have been carried out by specific paramilitary groups, it is understood that loyalists have carried out almost three times more gun attacks on police than republicans.

Attacks attributed to republicans are believed to have been carried out by dissident groups.

On April 3 police were shot at 25 times in five different gun attacks during UDA-orchestrated violence in the loyalist Tigers Bay area.

Four days later police came under fire from the lower Shankill with up to eight shots being fired by UDA gunmen.

On June 4 loyalist gunmen fired 13 shots at police lines during disturbances in east Belfast.

Six days later UDA gunmen fired six shots at the security forces during disturbances in the loyalist Sandy Row area of south Belfast. One officer was treated for burns to his face and hands after a petrol bomb was thrown into a Land Rover.

During two days of violence in Sandy Row in July, police came under attack from pipe, blast and petrol bombs with reports of shots being fired.

On August 22 the UVF in east Belfast was blamed for a series of gun attacks on police. Bursts of automatic gunfire at police lines were reported on the Albertbridge Road and Templemore Avenue with an armoured vehicle being struck by a number of bullets.

In the last known loyalist gun attack on security forces, on October 6, police came under fire from automatic weapons in the loyalist Westland estate in north Belfast when 13 shots were fired.

The figures do not include 50 shots fired at police lines during a standoff between loyalists and the security forces in the Crumlin Road area in September last year, or a blast bomb attack in the Glenbryn estate in October a month later when an 18-year-old soldier was left critically injured.

Ulster Unionist councillor Jim Rodgers accused those behind the attacks of having sullied the name of loyalism.

To try and kill police officers when all they are trying to do is to maintain law and order is an absolute disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves, he said.

In a recent brittish government Accounts,It has been recorded in the year 2001.75-80% of crimes in NI were caused by loyalists.

They organise themselves into gangs and attack nationilast homes. But in retaliation the nationalist organise huge guerilla groups, rather than small street gangs.
Thats why the IRA seem so intense.

And thats another thing, why are the IRA called "nationalists"?
Isnt the brittish govt, being even more nationalist by taking over & planting the country with protestants, while racially surpressing catholics by granting them less civil rights?
