I have been recently doing research on this period of time, and i find everything about it to be so fascinating. The outlook on life, the artwork, everything about the period is fascinating. A world where death looms everywhere and the world is turned upside down...

    Some quotes from the time:
"Neither physicians nor medicines were effective. Whether because these illnesses were previously unknown or because physicians had not previously studied them, there seemed to be no cure. There was such a fear that no one seemed to know what to do. When it took hold in a house it often happened that no one remained who had not died. And it was not just that men and women died, but even sentient animals died. Dogs, cats, chickens, oxen, donkeys sheep showed the same symptoms and died of the same disease. And almost none, or very few, who showed these symptoms, were cured. The symptoms were the following: a bubo in the groin, where the thigh meets the trunk; or a small swelling under the armpit; sudden fever; spitting blood and saliva (and no one who spit blood survived it). It was such a frightful thing that when it got into a house, as was said, no one remained. Frightened people abandoned the house and fled to another."

"It struck me very deep this afternoon going with a hackney coach from my Lord Treasurer's down Holborne, the coachman I found to drive easily and easily, at last stood still, and came down hardly able to stand, and told me that he was suddenly stuck very sick, and almost blind, he could not see. So I 'light and went into another coach with a sad heart for the poor man and trouble for myself lest he should have been struck with the plague, being at the end of towne that I took him up; But god have mercy upon us all!"

    -S. Pepys

"Realizing what a deadly disaster had come to them the people quickly drove the Italians from their city. However, the disease remained, and soon death was every where. Fathers abandoned their sick sons. Lawyers refused to come and make out wills for the dying. Friars and nuns were left to care for the sick, and monasteries and convents were soon deserted, as they were stricken, too. Bodies were left in empty houses, and there was no one to give them a Christian burial."

    -Unknown

"It was dark before I could get home, and so land at Churchyard stairs, where to my great trouble I met a dead corps of the plague in the narrow ally just bringing down a little pair of stairs."

    -S. Pepys

"How many valiant men, how many fair ladies, breakfast with their kinfolk and the same night supped with their ancestors in the next world! The condition of the people was pitiable to behold. They sickened by the thousands daily, and died unattended and without help. Many died in the open street, others dying in their houses, made it known by the stench of their rotting bodies. Consecrated churchyards did not suffice for the burial of the vast multitude of bodies, which were heaped by the hundreds in vast trenches, like goods in a ships hold and covered with a little earth."

    -Giovanni Boccaccio

The paintings from this period are possibly some of the most genius and disturbing pieces of art one could gaze upon. Here would be a small sample:

If the plague had just stayed in one city, the containment might have spared Europe. Unfortunately, the plague spread when people fled to other cities.

It is believed the plague originated in Asia, and moved west with Mongol armies and traders.
"According to a traditional story, the plague came to Europe from the town of Caffa, a Crimean port on the Black Sea where Italian merchants from Genoa maintained a thriving trade center. The Crimea was inhabited by Tartars, a people of the steppe, a dry, treeless region of central Asia. When the plague struck the area in 1346, tens of thousands of Tartars died. Perhaps superstition caused the Muslim Tartars to blame their misfortune on the Christian Genoese. Or perhaps a Christian and Muslim had become involved in a street brawl in Caffa, and the Tartars wanted revenge. In any case, the Tartars sent an army to attack Caffa, where the Genoese had fortified themselves. As the Tartars laid siege to Caffa, plague struck their army and many died. The Tartars decided to share their suffering with the Genoese. They used huge catapults to lob the infected corpses of plague victims over the walls of Caffa. As the Tartars had intended, the rotting corpses littered the streets, and the plague quickly spread throughout the besieged city. The Genoese decided they must flee; they boarded their galleys and set sail for Italy, carrying rats, fleas, and the Black Death with them."

"ring around the rosies, pocket full of posies, ashes ashes we all fall down!!"

amazing how that is describing the plague, yet it made its way into childrens rhyms.

thos are some good paintings. this period of thime seems interesting, i dont know if its just the death thing or what that attracts me to it.

amazing all this deaths cuz of rats and ppl on a ship. so much suffering.

im not entirely sure but, isnt this the time were they used to burry ppl alive, because they thought they were dead, and when they took out their graves to make room for other they saw nail marks. they foud out that ppl had been buried alive, so they put a string down a hole and with a bell on the end. so just in case they were burried alive again they could ring the bell.

hence, the phrase "saved by the bell"

Well, a positive aspect to the plague is that it helped bring about the end of fuedalism.
Before the plague, there was an abundance of skilled and unskilled laborers, they all had families and needed work, that put them at the mercy of kings and lords who provided work in their lands. While the plague killed off most of the population, the surviving rulers still needed workers, and since workers were in short supply, the surviving workers gained power and leverage over their employers.

there were no positive aspects on the black pest at all, feudalism would end without it, there was a class war ocuring those times, and the burguase would won with oe without plague, there were and let me repeat once again so you or any other person wount repeat this barbarity again; THere were no positivi aspects on the Bubonic plage whatsoever, it only killed, anhilelated, increased fanatism, improved clerigal power, spread hunger more tahn it alredy existed, and gave a change to the english bastards to attack france and start the 100 years war....

I feel sorry for the poor fleas. They must have died by the millions . The same with the rats.

I simply... i dont know, i love this era. It is so.. alien to us. Imagine if today a plague struck and killed massive numbers everyday. Everything began to focus on death. The living would mingle with the dead in paintings, art, and literature. Can anyone find me a place where i can find a large number of paintings done during this time period.

Although it ended feudalism, it also ended the morality and purity of the Middle Ages. Before this, the Church had meant everything, the people were all god fearing and moral. The plageu brought about a sense of pessimissm in which the people would "live for today." Feudalism's ending can't be thought of as a good thing because its end meant the beginning the Industrial Revolution.

The fleas were unharmed, that is why it spread so easily, the plague just lived on the fleas muzzle and why the flea bit something it pierced the skin and some bubonic plague went into the cut

Pandemics control the population. Scientists say a pandemic will occur naturally in the near future, in order to balance things out.

Yep, and you know who is going to feel the grunt of that? Us, the working, over crowded, mass transportation taking, living close corridors class. Plagues never worry the upper class, they live on acres of land. Granted, we are also what makes 90 or more percant of the population, but I say if we have to endure another black plauge, WE ALL have to endure the black plauge. Equal disease for all..... I guess... I don't know where I was going with that one.

The rich are wealthy, not immortal. They will fall sick too, only they get to afford the expensive drugs and treatment while the rest of us pile up in the gutters and smear the roads with our bile and vomit.
The prolonged barrage engulfed Zero-One in the glow of a thousand suns. But unlike their former masters with their delicate flesh, the machines had little to fear of the bombs' radiation and heat. Thus did Zero-One's troops advance outwards in every direction. And one after another, mankind surrendered its territories. So the leaders of men conceived of their most desperate strategy yet. A final solution: the destruction of the sky.

recent evidence has shown that the black death was probably caused by an ebola like virus or a flu like virus rather than bubonic plague, bubonic plague doesn't spread very quickly,

then why have people believed it was the bubonic plague? Is it possible that people have just developed immunities of some sort to it, or that the medicine that has since developed slows its rate of contraction?
Direct action is key- don't just sit at your computer and rant at leftists you disagree with slightly- get out there and DO IT. Organize. Change your life, and change the lives of those around you. The reason the waterheads are still in power is because we aren't being loud enough.

when westerners saw an outbreak of bubonic plague in Iran in the 19th century they thought the symptoms were so much like the black death that they thought it was the black death. They didn't bother to check anything else and started telling school students for the next 150 years that black death was bubonic plague.

In reality, the black death was only stopped by quarantines, rats do not obey quarantines, so quarantines would not work against a bubonic plague. They do work in Ebola outbreaks though.

Also there was a mutation of the gene causing immunity to the HIV virus around the time of the black death and because HIV and Ebola are related viruses and this gene gave people immunity, this suggests it was Ebola.

The medicine that has been developed slows down the bubonic plague, not the black death, if people believed it was smallpox people would be saying we've cured the black death. The medicine hasn't been taken back to the 13th and 14th centuries and tested on them has it? No, only people who have a desiese which isn't the black death.

Scary thing is, the black death can return,
