I am fasinated with this period of time. Unfortunatley it is not really a period you can connect with communism or socialism. However it is the first steps to social reform in Europe.

Napolieon claimed to be a great leader who was the savior of the people against the evil Ancien Regime. feared by evil Les Emigres, loved by the people.

Really i recon he was just another lying dictator who claimed to be pro revolution, which abbolished titles. However once in power napolion made all his marshales lords of this and barrons of that.

    What do you believe?

Though not an anti-semite, Napoleon was otherwise the Hitler of his era. His lust for conquest and empire was insatiable. Towards the end, like Hitler, Napoleon began to believe in his own legend...always the fatal mistake of such types.

After the revolution, may his monuments be torn down, his tomb demolished, and his wretched bones thrown into the Seine like a dead dog.

Napoleon was nothing but a most primitive fascist, he used polices to arrest and torture his political oponents, he planed to conquer all europe for "great" France (nationalism) he spend all money and efort on war (nazism) he indiscriminly attacked other countrys, advocating the french supermacy (nationalism/nazism), he may have been a great general, but so was hitler and franco, yet you dont see anyone saying they were good or usefull...

but one must remark upon his military tatical skill. at that time if you were not nobility or royality leading the army was out of the question. he defeated many kings, often so arrogant they walked right into his traps. if it had not been for a brutal russian winter in which many of his men died, who knows what sort of world we would be living in...

It seems some of you are missing what was important about Napoelean Bonapart. Yah he gave Titles to people. But they went to people who deserved them through work and skill. not because they were from a certain bloodline. Though he thwarted many things tied to communism (equal republic, anti-establishment religion) he was instrumental in bringing an end to Feudalism.

I respect Napoleon as a revolutionary and general, but i dissaprove of everything he did after the revolution.

He self-proclaimed himself the emporer, and needlessly conquered other nations, which doesn't rest well with me. He was a charasmatic figure and brilliant general, but (as previously mentioned) so was Hitler.

keep in mind that almost all of europe was on his ass trying to defeat france. He finally beat them out of his own borders, saw the opportunity to be on the offensive, and took it. Morally I would be opposed to this but stratigically i'd be a fool not to. As the Sun Tzu teaches: to keep them from attacking: wound them.

However Napoleon was pretty changed after he got in power. The things for the common man changed a lot and in a better way.
Let no one charge that socialists have arrayed class against class in this struggle. That has been done long since in the evolution of capitalist society. One class is small and rich and the other large and poor....One consists of capitalists and the other of workers. These two classes are at war. Every day of peace is at the expense of labor. There can be no peace and good will between these two essentially antagonistic economic classes. - Debs

Riddle me this: I keep hearing that Napolean was one of three anti christs. What's up with that? Maybe they're not talking about Bonapart. It doesn't make sense that someone who brought France back to a Catholic dominated state would be condemed by Catholics.

Then again, religion has never made any sense to me.
