hmm, not sure where this is supposed to be, so i thought i would put it in this forum.
I was just wondering if anyone else has done Russian Revolutions in a history course at school. Becuase am doing it at the moment. And my course is very different to the one my firned is doing, becuase of the simple fact that we have different teachers.
My course is great. My teacher is a communist, and she also speaks a little russian, so we are being taught from Russian textbooks, not the run of the mill british ones that dont tell you much.
But yea,i just wanted to find out abotu other peoples history courses and whether they had studied it, because i know different schools choose a different selction of courses.
Also id would like to sya i am extremely surprised about how left my class "seems". Im not sure at the moment whether they actually are, or whehter they are just claiming to be.
anyway, rant over.

"The more I learn the less I know."
Yeah I did History for GCSE two years ago and I got a A grade. Although I failed nearly everything else. For GCSE in my first year I studied Mao's China and the American West. But alas I got expelled (aren't I the rebel) and in the final year at a different school I studied the Russian Revolution, Cold War, Nazi Germany and the whole International Relations from 1919-39.
And I got a grade A (did I mention that). Last year for AS level (dam stupid idiot who came up with that one) I studied the English Civil War, International Relations and Nazi Germany. There was no course work just 3 papers on the above in May. The annoying thing is I got a U grade in two of the papers and another A grade when I had to write a SA to the question 'To what extent was Joseph Stalin a dictator?'. Which managed to boost my overall grade up to a E.
Fournatly I can retake the two papers which I failed at Christmas. I am now continueing onto the full A level and studying Rossevelts America and Russia from 1850 to 1950.

''That morning, my father took my hand and we went out. I saw how upset all the Algerians looked and how the French were rejoicing. I asked my father what had happened. He gravely replied: 'Stalin is dead...' I asked who Stalin was. My father said: 'He was the greatest man of our time. He was the leader of the Soviet Union, the greatest revolutionary country. Stalin was the son of a cobbler.' And I thought the son of a cobbler, someone like me...' Algerian Revolutionary in fight against French Imperialism.
The World Revolution is ongoing history. Even if you win the war, which I don’t think you will, the World Revolution will not and cannot be stooped by military means, Your very powerful army can do much harm to us, can kill many of our people - but it cannot kill ideas! Its movement might seem dormant to you at the moment, but it s there and will come to the fore again out of the awakening of the poor, the downtrodden orginary people the world over in Africa, the Americas, in Asia and Europe too. People in their masses will one day understand that it is the power of capital over them which not only oppresses and robs them, but stifles their human potential, which either uses or discards them as mere pawns to make monetary profit out of the,. Once the people grasp that idea, it will mature into an almost material force in popular uprisings like spreading wildfires and will do what has to be done in the name of humanity. It will not be Russia who will do it for them, although the Russian working people were the first who have borken the chains. The people of the will do it for themselves in their own countries, against their own oppressors, in their own ways and in their own time!’

yea 1850 to 1950 is what we are doing at the moment.
My cousin did her AS levels last year, and failed everything except spanish and history (the fatc that her mum speaks spanish and did history at university probably helped there) shes retaking aswell at christmas
I did USSR 1914-45, and also the Cold War until the Cuban Missile Crisis. My teacher was very conservative, and embarassingly pro-American. Many a time I lectured him on just how innaccurate his, and consequently the class', sentiments were.
Still, I got an A at GCSE so I must have done something right.![]()

my exam topic was about the USSR, mainly during the Stalin era... my teacher was/is very Anti-Communist, he tried to indoctrinate us with "Red Terror" crap..
his so called facts were so filled with holes that i made a study of my own about the history without the western-propaganda filled school books![]()

<sigh> no sense of humor, this lad.
"and waste years in a bookies "
a year and i did get lots of fresh air,sun and money.
"lumpenprolateriat"
you can't just make words up! Lets please stick to the language we've all agreed on.
"Or i could get my A in this shit subject, get a job in international relations "
this is non siquitar. Why would an A level get you into 'International relations' ? Why would an A level in the history of the Artisans Dwellings Act 1875 help you?
"get a job in international relations then make a real impact in the world "
this is also Non Siquitar. In what way has the Assistant to the Coloumbian Abassador made an impact on International Relations.Other than murdering a cockney?(ask him if he has A level History)
Did Franco have many A levels? He had a fair impact. Was Stalin renowned for his knowalge of the Enclosures Act?
What about the likes of Malatista and Goldman. No A levels there.
But then ofcourse their are great graduates like Blair, the Bush family, Bill Gates, Nixon,Kissinger.Shit i can't wait to have an "Impact on International Relations."
This needs further qualification.Define a "real impact" on "International Relations.
k?
"giving odds on horses like u did hey?"
quiet enjoyed it myself.Made alot more money than i probbly would say, peddeling junk food in a delly.Got more sun aswell.
\"A year on from September 11th the question we should all be asking ourselves is,\" where was Spider Man?\"

Fresh air? WTF, loads of smokers = fresh air? hmm
I like your dry wit, shame its at a childs level hey?
Stalin et al didnt have A-Levels so he didnt do them, dont try and be funny in serious post, stupid fuck.
u dont get international relations from an A in A-level history, but i would get into a decent university (and thankfully wankers like you dont get into universities),
from their i could work as civil servant, work upto cabinet, then who knows. I have ambitions, I CAN have ambitions, coz while u were meddling with working class money and working for the petit bourgousis, i was "learning". Granted learning shit i didnt want, but still gives me qualifications.
BTW, its spelt Deli, not Delly, i guess you wouldnt know as it seems you didnt finish your english course.
By definition Deli food isnt junk, then again you seem so uncultured you wouldnt know the fuckin difference.

back to the thread....
i studied the revolution for half a year. damn interesting stuff. We got heaps of background, and learned how bloody ignorant tsar nicholas II was, as well as blokes like Witte and Stolypin. The coup was was interesting also. really intering time in russian history. definitely worth learning about.
also, if you want any help with it, dont hesitate to ask. i love the topic!
btw. my teacher was also for the revolution, so it made it easier to learn, and not debate.
