As Sept. 11 passes, we should also not forget the other black Sept. 11. On this day in 1973, Salvador Allende, the democratically elected president of Chile, was overthrown by General Augusto Pinochet with crucial support from the C.I.A.
As a result, thousands of political enemies (left-leaning), greater than the number of losses on 9-11-01 were murdered and countless more tortured.
Lets never forget the victim at hands of America’s brutal foreign policy.

Well i felt this would be a more proper thread, rather than the giggly did-you-know type (first one).
I would not consider allende much of a liberal. He was no stalinist, although he did fill his cabinet with generals, whcih was used as a pretext for intervention.
His cabinet was only made up of a number of generals because Allenda spent much of his presidency trying to appease the rich and the right-wingers. Aside from that, there was also a percentage of the military that was loyal to Allende.
If the poor of Chile had've been mobilised, like in Venezuela in April, then the coup would undoubtedly have been defeated.
“There are no boundaries in this struggle to the death. We cannot be indifferent to what happens anywhere in the world, for a victory by any country over imperialism is our victory; just as any country's defeat is a defeat for all of us.†– Che Guevara
“We still believe that the struggle of Ireland for freedom is a part of the world-wide upward movement of the toilers of the earth, and we still believe that the emancipation of the working class carries within it the end of all tyranny – national, political and social.†– James Connolly
kinda reminds me of what happened on another forum today
damn it, for once I agree with something Mazdak just said ...
I didn't know this happened 11/9. A coincidence or what?
This event really makes me sad. Chile was on the way to a better future when those ####### people HAD TO intervene and put that retarded sadist in instead.

Elaborate. I do not understand(the first part, that is).
It makes me sick that the U$ would support a coup overthrowing a government for the people and replacing it with a repressive government.
RGacky3,
It is really sad, and they've done it so many times. They still continue to do it, but a little more 'behind the cutton.' The USA gov't should've learned from it's mistakes since the tragedy of 9-11-01.

puting Dictators on control of foreng countrys os just a way to assure that U$A get the resources they need form that country at a low price, if a socialist or less dictator state exsit on a counrty (lets say columbia) the workers will get bether works, they will earn morew money and they wount have to work 18 hours a day, so the production wiount be at the speed AmeriKKKa wants, and so they cant get the products at those very low prices they want, plus with a dictatorship, the population will be bether controled, since there wont be any revolts, strikes etc, and so the USA gov can control taht country has they want
I hate the U$ government so much

Direct action is key- don't just sit at your computer and rant at leftists you disagree with slightly- get out there and DO IT. Organize. Change your life, and change the lives of those around you. The reason the waterheads are still in power is because we aren't being loud enough.
What did they do to you there?
