Well I've been doing a lot of reading about Marx lately and when I got to understand his views on Capitalism I realised that Communism as we have known it in History was doomed from the start. Well Marx says that Capitalism is a necessary stage for the development of Communism as it is Capitalism which is the very antithesis of all that Communism stands for. Capitalism is based on the exploitation of others and thus makes society ripe for Revolution. The pattern should, however, be Feudalism to Capitalism to Communism. In Russia,China,Cuba,Yugoslavia, etc there was an essentially feudalist economy before communism, thus skipping a stage...which makes it more understandable that communism would fail in such countries.
The opposite of poverty is not wealth, but indifference to poverty and wealth.

I agree, this has come up several times. Russia pulled out of World War I because of the revolution. Knocked the Tzar out of power, which meant that they skipped capitalism and went from feudalism to socialism. It was not industrialized enough, same goes for China.
