I heard there are mines in the water between Guantanamo bay and Cuba, is this true??

Not surprised about the mines.
I doubt Fidel would want to wake up one morning to find the better part of the American fleet shelling the Presidential Palace.

The Cuban Missile Crisis began as the Turkish Missile crisis. Here's the version they won't teach you in school:
Kennedy joined up with Turkey and in exchenge for AID that Turkey needed to modernize/westernize itself, it agreed to put US bases there (still there) and the then US put Nukes in Turkey and pointed them at the USSR.
In its own defense, USSR respeonded by sending AID to Cuba and placing missiles there pointing towards the USA.
When Kennedy and Kruschev agreed to dismantle the nukes, they did so without discussing it with Fidel or even telling him, which was a major diss from both sides to Cuba.
The USSR removed its nukes, but Kennedy welched out and the nukes remained in Turkey.
So the Cuban missile crisis is more accurately called, the Turkish missile crisis.
Let us be judged by how we treat the least among us....Supermodel, rubia y descamisada...
Oh, do you know where I can find more information on that? Wasn't there something like that in "The Sum of All Fears" movie? I don't remember but it was something about the USSR not the USA having nukes in Turkey....wait so the US still has nukes in Turkey???
That's basically the version of the story they teach us in Britain. Except they said that Kennedy removed the missiles from Turkey but didn't tell the American public so it would look like he had won.

what do you mean "the version they won't teach you in school?" I learned about that in world histroy last year.
My teacher was a right winger too and he still explained that to us.
seriously, you can read about that everywhere, i mean even on cnn's coldwar website.
we learnt bout that too (the turkey part)- but they made it sound as if it was just part of the deal, and that the missiles on cuban soil were more dangerous or something

yeah, the schooling system always distorts the truth so that you will look at things from their point of view. my teacher was cool enough to give us an in depth explanation, however. And in addition to that, he didn't take a right wing perspective on things. he took all of me and gacky's remarks on the subject, into considerationand even agreed with us on certain points.
I agree with SuperModel, i didnt learn that in school. I'm not sure where you guys go to school, or if the system has changed while i have been gone, but we never even got a glimpse of the truth..

Heres the version i like:
In 1961 Cuban exiles supported by america attempted to invade Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro and communism but the opperation failed.
Fidel Castro fearing another invasion asked for the help of the Soviet Union. The Soviets (Once again stoping american oppresion) desided to help Cuba by placing nuclier missiles on the island to be able to retaliate in case of an invasion.
When John Kennedy learned about the soviet missiles in Cuba he offered The Cubans and the Soviets to never invade Cuba in exchange for a Soviet withdraw from the island. The Soviets (having nothing to lose) accepted the offer.
So the way i see it the cuban missle crisis was a victory for the U.S.S.R and Cuba.

I'd be interested to know how much they teach you about America over there in Britain. All we learned about Britain in school either happened before the late 1700's or had to do with America, too. (Such as Britain's involvement in World War II.)
