I just heard that Teletubbies were banned in the US because they thought Tinkie Winkie promoted homosexuality by carrying a handbag. Is this true?!?!

I can't believe a country that promotes 'freedom' would be so openly homophobic. I know America are extremely discriminatory but I thought they tried to give the impression that they weren't rather than openly ousting homosexuality like this?

I don't remember them ever being banned.

But there was a lot of controversy about them. And I think some "pro-family" groups protested them.

How do they even know if it's a boy or a girl?

Oh it's definately a boy. Or a testosterone-fueled girl, either way. His voice is the deepest of the lot.

Maybe he's transexual. The pro-family groups would have a field day then :P

I think you might be thinking of jerry farwell's weird claim that Tinky Winky is gay:

but i don't think they were ever banned.

Just read the article. What the fuck is this priest on?!?! Teletubbies promote homosexuality and are therefore a bad role model (do kids actually see the teletubbies as role models?) but are priests any better role models? Because they aren't perfect, not by a long shot. We all know what a lot of them get up to with the children of their parish, and even they have to admit exposing children to homosexuality is not nearly as bad as paedophilia.

I know someone who became a catholic priest and actually managed to get into the vatican. He said he's never had such a great time. Drugs, prostitutes, alcohol galore apparently. Now we know what REALLY killed John Paul II. :P

Pro-Vatican? No, except for the art and architecture. And the novelty of Latin ATMs.

I heard about this too, other reasons were that not only did Tinky-Winky carry a handbag but he is also purpl, and has an upside-down triangle on his head, two (alleged) well known and accepted symbols of homosexuality.

I know that alcohol is big at some monasteries, but I've never heard anything about drugs or prostitutes.

Niether have I and I am a practicing "Catholic", although I disagree with the church quite often and have debates with my priest on politics and "religious" fascism. My priest and the associate priest we had a while back have both been to the Vatican and have said it was a lively place, however, he said nothing about prostitues and drugs. I will have to ask.

Freedom? ha! America is not free.

that American reverend is quite amusing:
"In the same article he also condemned the US animated show South Park as "vile and impudent"."
South Park and the Teletubies are compared? wtf?

I don't know if it's banned; but it seems plausable that in a country where the president got in on the religious-vote that something dumb like this would happen. What's the big problem with Tinky Winky carrying a bag anyway - this American dude needs to check out mainland Europe loads of guys have bags.

I'm sure if Tinky Winky carried a 12-bore rifle, had a wife named Charlene and 13 kids, they'd all be for it. Proper family man, takes his kids hunting on the weekend, a cross burning every second Sunday of the month. They'd love that! But Tinky Winky carries a handbag so it must be a terrible show. <_<
People think they have taken quite an extraordinarily bold step forward when they have rid themselves of belief in hereditary monarchy and swear by the democratic republic. In reality, however, the state is nothing but a machine for the oppression of one class by another, and indeed in the democratic republic no less than in the monarchy.

They should be banned for their indecipherability and their dumbing down of kids' television.
