I would like to read up on anything leftist in nature, or biographies of anyone leftist in nature.
So far I'm planning on getting:

Walden -- Henry David Thoreau
Civil Disobedience -- Henry David Thoreau
The Autobiography of Frederick Douglass (forgot what it's called)
A biography on Sojourner Truth (Havn't really looked for one yet, any particualr suggestions?)
A biography on Rosa Luxemberg (again, havn't really looked for one yet, any suggestions?)

So far I only have to bring with me:

A Clockwork Orange
Das Kapital
One-Dimensional Man
Che: a revolutionary life (still havn't finished that)

Any more suggestions for books to bring to an extreme-rightest boarding school?

Anyone know any biographies of Rosa Luxemberg? I couldn't find any, I would also like to find a book on Paris '68 and the Paris commune.

thx

For stuff on Paris '68 I'd recommend Maurice Brinton's first-hand reports (http://www.geocities.com/cordobakaf/maya.html) and the Cohn-Bendit brothers' "Obsolete Communism: The Left Wing Alternative" as the best places to start...

Dropping out and enrolling in a state school would probably be far more revolutionary then going back to a reactionary institution such as an independant boarding school...

I fail to see how that would be revolutionary in any way, nobody would benefit from it, including myself, the education there is great; in fact I love my history teacher for pointing out all the inaccuracies in the books we have in his class.

The only people that are rightist are the deans, who can be f'in nazi's, they're the ones that come by your room at 3 in the morning to make sure you asleep, who listen in on your conversations outside your window, and tear your room apart if they think you have something you shouldn't, and when you don't they'll tear everyone else's room's in the dorm apart. Oh yea and the computer teacher who monitors everything you do on the computers, but that would be at any school really.

But other than that, it's not all that bad I guess, most the teachers are pretty cool.

Best two books I've seen on Luxemburg:

Rosa Luxemburg: Her Life and Work by Paul Frolich (London, Victor Gollancz Ltd. 1940)

Rosa Luxemburg by J.P. Nettl (Schocker Books, New York 1966) ISBN 0-8052-0890-9

If you live in the states it is always good to have a copie of The People's History by Zinn, if you don't already have a copie. Good reference.

You talking to yourself again?

If you liked The Wind That Shakes The Barley I recommend 'Guerilla Days In Ireland' which is a classic, you can probably get it off Amazon.

It would be far more revolutionary to radicalize your fellow classmates then to simply switch to a public school.

I wouldn't reccomned this whack jobs writings. The guy thought he was "roughing it" in the wilderness (walden) when he was about 2 miles away from town. Secondly, transcendentalism is a compeletely irrational idea.

Isn't Civil Disobiedance only an essay and not a complete book?

State and revolution-Lenin
Scientific socialism vs utopian socialism- Engels
In what relations do the Communists stand to the proletarians as a whole? The Communists do not form a separate party opposed to other working class parties. They have no interests separate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole. They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement.
-Karl Marx

It is only by strengthening ourselves ideologically, inculcating in ourselves the values and ideals of the struggle and building up the ranks of the revolutionary party that we will make it.
