This coming season, Survivor (the American "reality" show) will be dividing the competing teams in a...well...unconventional fashion. They are going to be dividing the teams by "race" this season.
Personally, I am really surprised (and abhorred) that anybody actually thought this was a good idea. I heard about this a few days ago and I am still shocked.
My biggest fear is people will start "rooting" for "their race" and we will see more of this white pride bullshit and other reactionary things.
My biggest hope is that nobody cares to watch the show and we'll see it fade into oblivion. If not that, then my second hope is that the "master race" gets creamed by the "mud races".

I'm quite surprised that such a major corporation is doing something this controversial. Maybe it's from the "No publicity is bad publicity" standpoint. Perhaps more people will watch the show this season just to see what will happen.
It could also lead to backlash...

A segregated survivor is 'controversial', and controversy = ratings.
Obviously the makers of survivor are aware that the 'franchise' has been dying a slow death for a while now (which season is this? 9?), and are struggling to keep the format 'fresh', there's only so many times you can, 'OMG LETS MIX THE TRIBES TOGETHER AT AN UNEXPECTED MOMENT!!!' - i think one of the past seasons, they did a sex-based split with men vs. wom*n? I think i remembering seeing or hearing about that. Segregating the show on 'racial' grounds is just another manifestation of that, maybe next year they'll have, 'Survivor: San Fran, GAY VERSUS STRAIGHT!'

Besides, if most (if not all) of the producers and editors of the show are white. It's bound to be unfair. Hollywood is well known for their racism.
