Why would they support a party led by André Boisclair -- a neo-liberal cokehead with economic values identical to Jean Charest's and Mario Dumont's -- over a genuine progressive and democratic socialist party like Quebec Solidaire?

To Cheung Mo: I agree, partially. I can't help but hope that their all just joking with Boisclair, although they picked a bad time to joke around. I heard a theory that the capitalists have basically taken over the party to discredit it through bad leaders, but the same guy said the same about the BC NDP, which is only a little true... (gah)

It is because the left wants to support any party that advocates Quebec sovereignty. And currently the Parti Quebecois (Boisclair's party) is the only party that is influencial enough in Quebec. Also believe it or not the Parti Quebecois was founded on some socialist principles and frequented by many socialists but after party members where 'sleeping in bed' with members from other parties: the liberals and conservatives, the party lost those socialist priciples.
