But yeah, us Black people are just a bunch of whingers right? I can think of heaps of Australian examples of institutional racism just off the top of my head.
-Non-white kids are disproportionately hassled by cops, even when they&#39;re just hanging around in a public space.
- Indigenous kids and adults have it even worse. Not only are they harassed by cops (look up the TJ Hickey case) they&#39;re often charged with nonsense offences that a White person would NEVER be charged with. You could also look up the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody for a rundown.
- In the media, white faces are the norm and Black faces are only seen when a Black face is required. From what I can gather all us Indian people do it make curry. And we all have accents.
- Poorer areas, where Black populations are higher have lower access to services and amenities like schools, public transport, healthcare.
- Australia&#39;s racist poliy toward asylum seekers is a clear example of a government exploiting latent racist sentiment within the poplulation and its own ranks.
- Australia&#39;s foreign policy seems intent on (to quote Corrine Grant) sending Alexander Downer to bleat "democracy, brown people. democracy&#33;"

You should demand reparations.

Most whites seem to be in favor of a colorblind system, whereas minorities are constantly lobbying and fighting for legislation which will give them an advantage.

European people in this world have a better living standard and are represented politically and culturally. There is no denying it. After years of aparthiad, racist, colonial systems, still non-white people are over represented in poverty, ill health and crime. The battle for equal rights, national rights, indigigious title etc, must continue on in the post colonialsystems, which still carry on a similar mentality.

The reason why white people advocate "colourblind society" is so they can ignore responsibility to correct their racist pasts and attitudes and never make an active effort to make an equal society. If they take on the liberal/conservative ideas about individualism, then they can ignore the collectivity of poverty and unemployement. In politics, if we believe we are in a colour blind society, then the capitalist leaders are never forced to make a commitment to fix inequalites. It becomes the individuals own fault they live in poverty. Regardles of material inequalities and cultural ignorance. Land rights and national rights are denied, as the indiginous people are told they are individuals of the white nation, equal to white men.

All this madness of "colourblind" society, is just being plain lazy. This is the real white guilt, guilty white people ignoring responsibility. They want to forgot the oppressive practicises of their ancestory, and rather like to blame the victim. Advocating a colour blind society, in a world full of racial, ethnic and national inequalities is RACISM.

Any form of socialist, progressive nationalist, civil rights , native tittle, human rights movements all recgonise the importance of collectivity. That the individual&#39;s porblems, is normally shared by other people. The relationship to these other peoples is a either class (most important), culture or ethnic(race).

Colourblind society ingores any progressive sociological reality of people and their environment. You should probably read C.Wrigh.Mills&#39; Sociological Imagination. It gives an understanding that individual problems are always link to wider public problems. Your mode of understanding is victim blaming.

You&#39;re already befitting from being a white person. For starters, you are 1st world white person. You already consume and earn abundantly more then 3rd world people. In your own country, you have benifits due to white history, which through brutality you inherit a position as an oppressor. You get better access to education and jobs. Culturaly you are represented in the mainstream media and other social instituations. You will hardly ever be misinterpreted by a cop, judge, welfare officer. Culturaly you are skilled enough to have more oppurtunities to move through the system, have less chance of being caught or assumed to be breaking the law.

You only have to look at the various social and cultural studies of western nations, to realise there is a white privilage.

I do not agree. Personally I grew up in a country with no tradition of racism against non-whites( Greece) and the idea to discriminate on the basis of race did not even pass from my mind; in fact many of my teen idols( basketball players etc.) were black.

There sure is a whole lot of anti-white racism in Hawaii. Maui is 30% euro-american and it is sure easy to collect stink-eye if you are white. The cops treat white locals real bad, worse than many other racial identities, high level cops mostly Japanese decent so you know they have their reasons. Of course, maui is pretty much apartheid in good weather, so the anti-white attitude has a basis. White folk do look just like the ones who stole the islands and that is never forgotten for long. The Hawaiian sovereignty orgs all assign whites a lower class position ie limit participation and rights within org and theoretical second class status if sovereignty ever achieved. Any white who travels away from resort strip with their eyes open can see how much hatred is harbored towards whites. White racisim is only big in mostly white contries, they all have their own flavor according to who is on top.
