I'm a guy who haves alotta tattoo's.
And I really discovered that when I want sollicitate for a job, that I get rejected for my tattoo's.
Ok, I must admit I have them on my hands and one on my skull.(by the way I've grown hair over it, but I'm getting older so I'm getting also balder.)
So that means that I have to shave my hair to look a bit presentable.
Are there any other people her who faced the same troubles like I did?

I don't think you can compare discrimination against say, heavily tattooed people to say, black people, because heavily tattooed people are a demographic of choice, they weren't born that way, so discrimination against them is rather different. Its discrimination against what they've done, how they deliberately present themselves by choice, not who they are by no fault of their own. In this sense its not comperable...everyone who gets heavily tattooed is making a fashion statement and an aesthetic choice and understand that some people don't share their tastes.

No one was comparing them, why did you bring it up?

But in reply to dusk, it must suck, but I don't suppose there is a lot you can do about it. Out of curiosity, are the tatoos of anything notable?

I had trouble finding a job with my piercings, even though I could have just taken them out I didn't think I should be forced to change just so I can slave for some asshole so I just kept searching. I finally found an employer that didn't care.

Try being a mature woman who is heavily tattooed. I hear a lot of,what are you going to do when you turn 65? I usually reply the same thing I do at 45. But yeah, I knew what reactions I would get by getting tattooed in the first place. Its the price you have to pay for body art. ANd really, wasnt there some motivation to shock people anyway? Yeah you got to deal with the consequences and think out placement of tattoes before you get them, if you dont want to deal with negative reactions.

I dont have tattoos but I know its harder for me to find a job because I have long hair. That and my record. I dont get why they only go for those who have short hair and a perfect record. I think they should give ANYONE WHOS GOT GOOD WORK ETHIC a shot whether you have long hair, short hair, tattoos, no tattoos, or w/e. The fuck is it with these businesses?

A lot of people have troubles like that, with tattoos or shaved heads or long hair and stuff like that.

Basically, If I was at an interview and someone said......Mr Si Pinto your basically ideal for the role we're offering but for one small problem....your tattoo (or your shaven head etc), I'd just say "well fuck you then" in my best scouse accent whilst extending my middle finger.

I think tattoos are great, my grandfather (a plain talking, down-to-earth socialist) had two, one on each forearm (and this was in the 40's and 50's imagine the reaction then?) and I remember a conversation I had with him when I was young (he died when I was 12), I think I'd asked him about 'why did he have those tattoos' and he said "because it attracted the girls (he was an ex sailor) and because it was 'his choice'.

So don't worry about it, if your 'would-be' boss has a problem with how you look rather than how you perform, then he/she isn't worth working for.

and...

Your worrying at 27 about getting older and balder?

I understand your opinion, but tattoo's are like culture for me.
It's like a history book written on my body, as well my scars.
Talking about scars. believe me in the past I've been in so much trouble's and rumble's with da police and other fightsick people.
That today I look like scarface himself.

I suppose a lot of it has to do with the type of work you do. Obviously, the Management are more discriminating in some sectors than they are in others....with customer orientated jobs being the least "tattoo friendly".

I mean, obviously, you shouldn't be rejected because you have tattoos, but that is the reality of todays society. And I think, frankly, is someone was thinking about having a tattoo (or a piercing for that mater), it would be best to get when in an area that remains covered. Which really sucks, because most cool stuff goes on "exposed areas"....except nipple piercings of course. <_<

On your question though, I don't personally know anyone who's had the problems you've had....though I doubt many people are honest enough to say to someone "you're not getting the job 'cause you've got tats".

Yeah but blokes are alright mate, we can just shave it off (women tend to look like extras from Tenko when they do this, not that I object, it's their choice of course).

Just don't do that thing where you comb the 6 strands of hair left on your head over to the other side.....I openly laugh when I see that .

More and more women prefer bald men these days, so I don't see the problem with going bald unless you are partially bald and have that 70s comb-over in which it is quite scary on a windy day. For tatoos, they are getting more culturally accepted or tolerated in the work force unless it is visible and appears on the hands or in your face, in which one looks more than a clown than anything else. So unlike baldness, one has a choice to get a tatoo, you must always consider this when you are sober and have thought it thru because it will be with you for the rest of your life unless you can endure a removal and have the bucks for it.

lol you say this on what basis? there are exceptions to be sure but being bald is not a traditionally or generally attractive feature, its more like some women tolerate it in some men, rather than ever prefering it.

I think its true that, its quite socially acceptable to have one *small* tasteful tattoo in areas that would be concealed by long sleaved shirts, especially if its a comparatively simple design or something cute rather than hostile looking.

But having tattoos that cover your arms, chest, back, or that are larger than a couple of inchs across in a visible location, or 'traditional' biker tattoo style designs (daggers, hearts that say the name of some ex, 1950s style betty pageish pin up girls, skulls and cross bones, barbed wire, eagles, dragons, national flags, etc), i think, will still get a lot of discrimination because its taken to be a particular counter-culture and somewhat hostile statement on the part of the wearer.

For those who worry about their hair - look at your maternal grandfather, as you tend to have the same "hair fate" as he does.

Well I based this on personal observations, I have seen increasingly middle aged bald men (with no hair) with hot women. Why do more and more young males shave off their hair and to get awesome girls? I too thought having no hair is not an attractive feature before I came to noticed this. Besides on some people having no hair is better on them than having some.

They do it because they have such a shitty personality that the only way they can get a girl is through following the current norm <_<.

If that is the case, there are a lot of them. I was previously considering shaving off my hair and go bald to cut down on the time of combing them and save on shampoo but now I see this could give of the wrong impression.
