Below is a letter from Geoff Braasch announcing his campaign.

    Hello Comrades,

After careful consideration and consultation with many comrades, I have decided to seek the Socialist Party USA's nomination for President of the United States.

A Braasch for President campaign will be different than the SPUSA has seen in the recent past. We will campaign as if we are going to WIN. I realize that this is a monumental endeavor, and we will meet with a great many obstacles. It is important; however, to spread the message and indeed the vision of a democratic socialist society, to as many people as possible. We are still in the planning stages of a campaign strategy, but I would like to share with you some of our campaign goals.

We want to reach as many working people, working poor and unemployed people as possible. We want to do more than just visit locals. We want to take the campaign to where the people are. We want to bring the message to people on the picket lines, the unemployment lines, in the workplaces, the parks, the neighborhoods and yes, on university campuses. We want to focus our attention on reaching the 61% of eligible voters who did not vote in the last presidential election. We want to include as part of the strategy a massive voter registration drive. We want to go to every state with the message. We plan to campaign full time, every day, every week until Election Day. We envision mobilizing the membership, to get out and work in teams as we visit each location. We want to challenge the locals to campaign hard, with the goal of reaching as many people with the message as possible.

We want to encourage the locals to maintain the momentum realized during the campaign beyond Election Day.

The campaign will be one of audacity and drama. We want to really make a difference, and campaign as if we are planning to win the election. The Committee to Elect Geoff Braasch President is now forming. We need as much help as we can get. We need people to research, plan engagements, assist with statement writing, assist with media work, and above all, we need the input of everyone.

This campaign will have nothing to do with Geoff Braasch. It will have everything to do with reaching as many people as possible with the message of transforming society through Democratic Socialism.

    In Peace, Solidarity, and Struggle,
    E. Geoffrey Braasch (Geoff)

I am pleased to hear this comrade.
"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." - Albert Einstein

As happy as I am that the Socialist have a leader that wants to run as if he wants to "win", how long can they keep up the momentum? The SPUSA will ahve a hard time coming up with the funds to keep moving forward and all around the country. While its great he is ethusicastic about running, money will be the item that stops the campigan dead in its tracks. But I wish him good luck!!!

And the Socialist party doesn't have any momentum anymore. I applaud them staying on the stage, but I've largely pulled out most of my support for them, considering the shape they are in. Green Party for moi.

"We are running as if we will win" ahaha. I'm sorry that is amusing...

On a brighter note my riding is finally opening up to a 4 candiadte provincial pool NDP, PC, and the Libs are now having to face the Green Party. That is where my vote would go if I was 18 (and the way things are going they will not call the election until i am living in a riding with CPCML members running so this is all irrelevant anyways. And I turn 18 ina few months)

Well, that is a pleasant surprise to see such information there. I will be sure to have them update Geoff's information.

I am unsure why though put Barbara Garson in the list of candidates running, as their paragraph rightly states she is only being pressured to run, but as of yet is not and probably will not.

One of the primary reasons I support Geoff is because he is the youngest of the candidates and does not have the history or electoral experience the others do, thus opens him to new ideas and closer to the youth. The rest are old timers who need to step back and let the next generation of SP members strut their stuff.

Are your party for Revolution or reform? Anyone who thinks that the American ruling class would somehow give up control because Socialists won an election is monumentally naive.
Since, according to their fantasy, the relationships of men, all their doings, their chains and their limitations are products of their consciousness, the Young Hegelians logically put to men the moral postulate of exchanging their present consciousness for human, critical or egoistic consciousness, and thus of removing their limitations. This demand to change consciousness amounts to a demand to interpret reality in another way, i.e. to recognise it by means of another interpretation. The Young-Hegelian ideologists, in spite of their allegedly "world-shattering" statements, are the staunchest conservatives.
