UNSC approves sanctions against North Korea
The UN Security Council has voted unanimously to impose weapons-related sanctions on North Korea.
The move follows a flurry of missile tests that have provoked an international outcry.
The resolution demands that North Korea 'suspend all activities related to its ballistic missile program.'
It requires all UN members to prevent imports to or exports from North Korea of missiles and missile-related items as well as materials and funds that could be used in weapons of mass destruction programs.
To avert a veto from China, the resolution does not mention Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, a provision used to make council documents legally binding.
But Security Council members said the resolution was nonetheless mandatory because of the way it was worded.
