Default [STUDY GROUP] Study Group On Imperialism

Okay, the results of the poll showed that we had one clear winner: Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism by Lenin. So, I reckon that, obviously, we should start reading it and, hopefully, everyone can get through the two Prefaces and Chapter 1 ("CONCENTRATION OF PRODUCTION AND MONOPOLIES") by, say, next Monday. And, we can use this thread to discuss anything from the mentioned sections of the work.

On top of that, if anyone can't find it, the book is available from here. It has ten chapters in total, so once we get the beginning out of the way, hopefully we can do two or three chapters a week....at the very least. If we do that, then, including the first chapter and the two prefaces, it'll take us around a month to read this work and then we can possibly move on to another of the works listed in the poll.

Going from experience, the Marxists.org version is bugged; or at least it is for me. Clicking on Chapter VI (The Division of the World Among the Great Powers) causes Internet Explorer to crash and shut down. And... I see it still hasn't been fixed.

It works fine for me using Firefox. You should use this browser anyways. It's less buggy.

Could someone who can access Chapter VI copy and paste it into this thread? Or, better yet, start a new thread and post it there. Because I don't know how the fuck to use "Firefox" and I don't fancy attempting to set it up.

Just go here, download it and install it. It's a lot like IE except MUCH less buggy and better looking (in my opinion). It's a lot less buggy. Did I say it's a lot less buggy?

Just a suggestion - you might want to consider putting the study group threads in the main "Learning" forum. The last study group seemed to have strong interest at first, but rapidly dwindled. I think that being hidden away in this subforum is one reason.

If you do decide to have it in the subforum, I'd recommend some kind of effort to advertise it elsewhere on the board.

Yeah, we should try that. I don't think anyone will mind at all.

I'm sure it does (I checked), but there is a IE friendly one here as you probably know.

I'm not going to be able to be here on Monday (when we were asked to be done with Chp 1 (I will have read it though)), and I don't know how much I can get online for about a week and a half after that (only for short spurts I'm guessing). Is there anything I need to know?

I'd like to join this study group if I may While I'm versed in the exceedingly basic (and probably wrong) ideas of imperialism, I want to understand it to a much higher degree. I can read up to chapter you guys are on now, assuming you don't mind one more

Of course we don't mind. In fact, we need more people reading and discussing. We're currently discussing chapter 2 in the main Learning forum right now.

I intend to join the group, because it will give me an authority to do more reading and I have long been interested in Lenin's "Imperialism."

Unexpected work has cut my activity somewhat but I should still be around for the later chapters.

Hmm...study group seems to be falling behind.

I might as well start up the Chapter 3 discussion.

Since Chapter 4 is very short, perhaps we should read chapter 5 as well for next week?

Regrettably, health problems and an overbearing schedule make it hard for me to concentrate on the work at this time; I may post my ideas after I finish it, but it will take longer than I previously expected and I don't expect to keep up with the group. I will probably have found medication that works on my headaches by the time the next work is chosen, so I will probably be able to keep up with that.
