Moral majority take on GSK and Merck over cancer drugs
    By Danny Fortson

Pharmaceutical giants Merck and GlaxoSmithKline are gearing up for a bruising showdown with America\'s religious right after the US medicines regulator approved a new blockbuster cervical cancer vaccine last week.

Conservative groups, including the influential Family Research Council (FRC), have voiced concerns that immunising young girls against the virus that most regularly causes cervical cancer, Human Papilloma- virus, may lead to sexual promiscuity...

...Merck and Glaxo have been in discussions with Christian conservative groups in America to assuage their concerns. Lobbying organisations such as the FRC exercise considerable political power, and if they succeed in pushing their agenda it \"certainly could have a negative impact\" on the use of the vaccine, said Mike Ward, an analyst at Nomura Code Securities.

I think, its obvious that the real reason why they want to block the HPV vaccine is because they frankly want people to get cervical cancer as a result of sex, because without that as a potential risk, it is one less scare tactic they have to use against their daughters, who they want to keep to themselves as if they\'re their property and not indepedent people. In fact, HPV is probably the best scare tactic the have to harrass girls who want to be sexually active, because most other sexually transmitted illnesses can be prevented with nearly total confidence with condoms.

I bet they also get a sort of perverse satisfication out of the idea of people getting cancer, indirectly, from having sex before marriage (hypothetically, youd think that if you were a good christian and married another good christian, there would be zero chance of any sexually transmitted infections). Just like they got a sadistic pleasure out of the AIDS epidemic, god punishing the gays in their view, they probably get sadistic enjoyment out of seeing people punished with the results of HPV as well. And, since it doesnt affect men, crazy christian guys (who basically think that theyre forgiven for their sins but when anyone else sins its verrry bad) dont have to worry about it themselves so they see no conflict of interests.

Anyways, its just another example of how the fucked up christian right uses its influence in the US government to attack personal freedoms along sexist lines.

I read an article about this. Fucking ridiculous that they can get away with shit like this. Religion and "activism" shouldn't be a concern when we're dealing with people's fucking health. Ugh. They also sank an over the counter morning-after pill recently, Plan-B.

Nice thinking there TC. I'm tired this morning so I couldn't've had that much insight.
