Wow, I can't believe this. Somewhere between 300,000 and 500,000 people in Chicago protested against a new anti-immigration bill in congress, and not a mention of it anywhere that I saw on the news! The fact that they could muster up so many people of so many diverse backgrounds in such a period of anti-immigrant fervor is inspiring and awesome I think. Lets hope we see this replicated elsewhere in the country.

The only opposition to the march came from a group called the Illinois Minutemen Project. Rosanna Pulido of that organization said she believed protecting illegal aliens would violate the law.

“They are asking that our laws be totally violated to protect illegal aliens, people who break the law and come into this country,” Pulido said.

Earlier in the march, Pulido said, “I don’t care if there’s three million people out there, if they are illegal they do not have a voice in America.”

    Fucking scum bag.

Still, the house version has struck a nerve in multi-cultural Chicago. Many think that could trigger other protests as the legislation is debated in Washington, D.C.
It's going to need to trigger alot more than people walking around with signs to stop this.

Word, it is definitely being supressed. Barely a peep on the news about the anti-war protests yesterday, not even a word about the massive pro-immigration protests in Chicago which had nearly HALF A MILLION people in em. The key thing that I heard about this protest and why it was so successful was that they went straight to the people. Instead of going the traditional route and trying to bring together traditional leftist groups, they mostly promoted the march through morning-drive-time Spanish radio. In my opinion thats genius because having listened to such shows when I lived on the West Coast I know that they have MASS appeal, especially to Latino workers, and are an avenue of organization the left should definitely pursue in the future.

This is a magnificent achievment for the American left, it will inevitable be suppresssed however. It is the task of American socialists to publicise these successes and make the immigrants plight wel known.
In what relations do the Communists stand to the proletarians as a whole? The Communists do not form a separate party opposed to other working class parties. They have no interests separate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole. They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement.

It is only by strengthening ourselves ideologically, inculcating in ourselves the values and ideals of the struggle and building up the ranks of the revolutionary party that we will make it.

It was all over the News in Chicago and on CNN.
If you remove the English army tomorrow and hoist the green flag over Dublin Castle, unless you set about the organisation of the Socialist Republic your efforts would be in vain. - James Connolly

The Irish Republican Socialist Movement exists to agitate, educate and organise within our class and to mobilise our fellow workers towards the objective of removing the Northern colonial and Southern neo-colonial statelets on this island, thus ending imperialism and capitalism, and preparing the basic structures for an Irish Workers' Republic.

Thats pretty cool, it wasnt on any local news in my area (Northeast US, unfortunatly I don't get CNN). Still, for half a million people (thats massive by US protest standards, the Sept 24th anti-war protest only had like 300k&#33 it still wasnt as prominent as it shouldve been .
