Please help us get the word out (correr la voz) about this VERY important event!

Your support is especially needed if you are located in PA and the surrounding States of NJ, NY, DE, MD or have a friend or relative living in one of these areas.

We need YOUR support! It will just take a minute to pass on this e-mail. To date we have received e-mail support from as far away as Russia and Taiwan.

The proposed Sensenbrenner-King legislation could affect YOU and YOUR RIGHTS as well as the rights of a loved one, friend, neighbor, or co-worker.

Thanks for your help. Gracias. – Lisa

P.S. They still need bilingual, U.S. Citizens to act as security for this event. If you are interested in helping in this capacity you can e-mail me at [email protected] so that I can put you in touch with the appropriate organizer.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
A day without an immigrant is a 24 hour period where immigrants and friends do not attend work AND they notify their employer or affected person that the absence is due to the upcoming immigration reform and that they need to take action.

Having a day Without an Immigrant is not a new idea and has been attempted in efforts to illustrate the adverse economic impact the United States would experience if immigrants did not show up for work, or did not purchase goods for one day.

Most recent illustrations include Black Monday in Los Angeles Arau’s movie A Day Without a Mexican, where 14 million Hispanics living in California disappeared giving visibility to the invisible.

The current movement “El Paro” (Labor Stoppage) began in Philadelphia a few weeks ago and has gained momentum and enthusiastic support from New Jersey, Delaware, and New York immigrants and friends.

Supporters will be congregating at the Liberty Bell on 5th and Market Streets on February 14th from 12 to 2 PM.

We are a country of immigrants. Please help spread the word about this VERY important event.

Labor stoppage? Strike? This is pretty awesome and holds lots of potential, unfortunatly I hadn't heard about this earlier, are the people organizing this, well organized?

Trying to get a clutch at what I could not... could not...
The court played me short, now I face incarceration
Pacing -- going upstate's my destination
Handcuffed in back of a bus, forty of us
Life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough

This could of had alot potential if they could have gotten people to honor it. Reportedly about 5,000 stayed home, which is pretty good considering the budget of the organizers to spread the word was only $1,800.
"Getting a job, finding a mate, having a place to live, finding a creative outlet. Life is a war of attrition. You have to stay active on all fronts. It's one thing after another. I've tried to control a chaotic universe. And it's a losing battle. But I can't let go. I've tried, but I can't." - Harvey Pekar
