The Irish Congress of Trade Unions has called on its members and all the people of Ireland to show their solidarity with the sorely mistreated workers of Irish Ferries and gather in Dublin on the 9th of December, this Friday. These men and women are being put out of jobs to be filled by Eastern Europeans who will have to endure much worse conditions for a fraction of the pay (in many cases half the minimum wage) while Irish Ferries has shown complete contempt for the trade union movement. It is gravely important that we register our complete disgust at the actions of this greedy and ruthless company and the government who sat back and washed their hands of the whole thing. Please tell all your friends so we can get as many out on the streets this Friday. Below is a site which will tell you all you need to know.

Edit: Meh. Wrong forum. Can someone move this to events?

Certainly, though I fear it may be late...
"How you cling to your purity, young man! How afraid you are to soil your hands! All right, stay pure! What good will it do? Why did you join us? Purity is an idea for a yogi or a monk. You intellectuals and Bourgeois anarchists use it as a pretext for doing nothing. To do nothing, to remain motionless, arms at your sides, wearing kids gloves. Well, I have dirty hands. Right up to the elbows. I've plunged them in the filth and blood. But what do you hope? Do you think you'll govern innocently?"

Not to worry. We got a fantastic turnout anyway. I reckon there were 80-90 thousand people on the streets. It could be a real tipping point for union relations in Ireland. I'll post a report if I find one.
