URGENT: Arlington Heights Five RE-ARRESTED!!!
Chicago Indymedia, Dec. 1, 2005
Three of the Arlington Heights 5 were re-arrested today for tardiness at their first court date. Two of the three have been bonded out, but a third known as Eric Antifa, is still being held at 26th & California (Chicago, IL) for $500 bond. Please add more info if you have it. Confirmed info will be edited into the main post.
Today was a big day for activists in court. One activist saw victory as his citation was dropped in a hearing for swearing at Mayor Richard Daley at a protest against the Colombus Day Parade. Another activist is awaiting a courtdate in the afternoon after having been persecuted, banned from and arrested at DePaul University's campus.
But the big news came with the courtdate for the Arlington Heights 5, arrested in the Cook County suburb on October 15th at a protest against a large fundraising event held by the armed, racist group Project Minuteman. They were each charged with multiple counts of misdemeanor battery and released soon that day. This, their first courtdate, turned into disaster when three of the defendants were late and were ordered arrested by the judge. They were taken to Cook County Jail at 26th & California in Chicago. Two of the activists, who work with World Can't Wait, have been bonded out, but the third, known by his friends as Eric Antifa, is being held at $500 bond.
