So punks can't be communists? I consider myself a punk and anarcho-communist, and although I don't own a Che shirt, I don't see any contradictions there. Besides punk is not a fashion statement, it's a way of life. Real punks wearing that shirt would actually know what he was about and embrace. Those who don't are just posers.

Alberto Díaz Korda's "Guerrillero Heroico" (the famous portrait of Che) image was actually stolen from American companies without his consent. They were publishing his photograph on T-shirts, mugs, and other items and selling them, not having any knowledge of this. It was upsetting for him to see Che's image and his work being used in that nature, as I'm sure we can all understand. You can learn more about this in the documentary, Kordavision.
If I were ever to get something like that, it would be in Cuba.

I used to wear a Che shirt back when I was an impressionable social democrat. I knew very little about Che. Once I did research, I cut that out. Che was a revolutionary who devoted his life to fighting capitalism, imperialism, poverty, and injustice. Now his face is on T-shirts that are made in sweat shops and sold at Wal-Mart. When I realized how disappointed Che would be by the merchandise, I stopped that. I think of the Che products as a tragic example of capitalism's ability to pervert any cause and take profit. The Che shirts are incredibly disrespectful towards the people he liberated.
It depends on who is wearing the shirt.
Che Guevara has become a symbol for rebellion amongst teenagers and college kids....a symbol that capitalists love to exploit. I can only hope that some of those kids actually do the research on Che and truly become leftists.
However, I've been to several Latin American countries where Che Guevara's face is everywhere from murals to flags, to t-shirts. I'm sure that those people know who Che was and what he fought and died for.
I think that Che, an anti-capitalist revolutionary, would be ashamed that his image has became a product that is put on t-shirts and sold for a profit.
Che would find all of that stuff lame.
Then again, my university had a thing about the 10 most influential hispanics in history, and Che was one of them.
He's also a symbol of Latin America, in a way.

Why should Che face on a shirt be a message? A black shirt with a white sull, spear and scythe with "DEATH TO CAPITALISTS" is a message.
I saw my neighbours friend with a Che shirt on and asked him does he know who the guy on your shirt is, he said yes. He also told me that Che is an impression to him and he has read about Che and Cuba for years. Great to know that atleast some people wear the shirt and actually like Che.
As long as you know who Che was and you support him, you should be allowed to wear a shirt with his picture.
Ok, I have a Che shirt and I got it before I was a leftist and had no idea who he was to be honest. When I started to know who he was and became a leftist it pissed me off when would come up to me and say that "che was a racist, homophobe, and a murder you shouldn't wear that blah blah blah". Pisses me the fuck off.
