The earthquake in the northern areas of Pakistan and Kashmir has been one of the most lethal disasters in human history, especially for the poorest in the affected zone. According to the figures of the government of Pakistan more than 25,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands injured. The real totals will be far higher. Several towns, cities,
and villages have been demolished. The government is unable and does not possess even the infrastructure to conduct rescue operations after this tragedy, while the military is more concerned with security than the welfare of the population.

The Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign (PTUDC) has established a cross-border relief campaign, the Revolutionary Solidarity Caravan, which is now in full swing, bringing tents, blankets, food, doctors and medical supplies to literally dozens of communities throughout the affected areas.

Fightback Montreal, in support of the PTUDC, is holding a fundraiser to bring immediate aid to the survivors of the earthquake. A short presentation on the situation in Pakistan and the PTUDC's efforts within it will be followed by sales of beer and hard liquor at good prices.

Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign.

The Pakistan Trade Union Defence Campaign was organized within the Peoples' Progressive Party in Pakistan to defend workers' rights, and to counter the trend toward imperialism on one hand, and religious fundamentalism on the other. Its supporters are represented in the Pakistani Parliament by five PPP M.P.'s, and it has become a movement enjoying great popular support in Pakistan and Kashmir.
