Capitalism for Socialists

In order to figure out if its possible for socialists to vote for or support capitalist candidates, one must first look at what a socialist is. The dictionary defines socialism as any of various theories or social organizations in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively. The belief in capitalism, is the belief in individualism, which usually turns to greed. For a socialist to be greedy is a direct contradiction of what we stand for. Not only that but if a socialist votes for a capitalist or supports capitalist candidates he is not a socialist, and instead a capitalist reformer at best. Socialism is in direct opposition with capitalism and likewise capitalism is to socialism. To be a socialism means to believe in people over profit, to believe in an end to wage-slavery, privatization, and greed. But if one were to vote for a capitalist, he is casting a vote for wage-slavery, privatization, and greed, which is a direct contradiction to the views of socialism.
The socialist party’s founder is Eugene Debs, an outstanding orator for socialism, and a vehement opponent of capitalist politics. As he once said “How can any intelligent, self-supporting wage earner give his support to either of these corrupt capitalist parties? The emblem of a capitalist party on a workingman is the badge of his ignorance, his servility and shame.” The workers have no interests to those of the capitalists. It makes sense for the billionaires to vote for capitalist parties but those who work to keep their life, have no interests in giving their support to those who value money over human life, and would do all it takes to make an extra buck. One might wonder, if somebody knows the workings of the capitalist system, and realize that support for either capitalist party will never bring progress why would they vote for them. One option could be that, they just use the name socialist as name and really cares about profit and increasing his riches. The other option could be that capitalism could slowly reform into socialism. This is false. Socialism can never be achieved solely by reform. Marx saw this and popularized on it, and Debs realized it well when this party was created. As Debs said “Socialist reform vitalizes and promotes socialist revolution.” It is not possible to have a society that cares for its people while still having capitalism. Capitalism is centered around the profit motive, not human need. If one thinks that socialism through reform is possible, might I say that the old capitalist institutions will never be destroyed and thus will make a comeback. In order to have socialism, a revolution must take place so that the capitalist institutions will be completely destroyed in order to secure a place for humanity in the system. Capitalism preys on the weak, it requires masses of people to work for them, be their slaves so that they can make a good living. They keep the workers in such a way, that they make the workers compete for jobs. The managers begin their division of labor so that the work becomes so monotonous and dull, that one worker will be able to do the work of five, ten, or even twenty workers. Eugene Debs commented on those workers who vote for capitalist by saying “The worker who votes the Republican or Democratic ticket does worse than throw away his vote. He is a deserter of his class and his own worst enemy, though he may be in blissful ignorance of the fact that he is false to himself and his fellow workers, and that sooner or later he must reap what he has sown.” The workers have interests in their class, they have no interests compatible with the bourgeois. Those socialists who vote for capitalist parties are further impairing their party. They are defeating the righteous cause of socialism, in the name of greed. The aims and means of the Socialist party as Debs put it “In the name of the workers, the Socialist party condemns the capitalist system.” In which we must continue his legacy and support socialism with all of the fervor of our being, and smash capitalism with all the might of our fists.
