Unions VERSUS B.C. Provincal Government latest news..click here
For those able to be at the rally in Victoria come out and get ready to show your support for the local Unions who have banded together to fight the BC Governments abusive legislation aimed at curbing CIVIL rights!

ISSUE: BC Teachers Federation tried to negotate a contract with the BC Govn't. BC Govn't imposed an EXPIRED contract on the teachers without their consultation. BC Teachers Federation refused the deal and moved to a striking position. Last week, Friday...BC Teachers Federation went on strike, and the Government filed a compaint with the courts. The stike was deemed illegal because of special legislation aimed and stripping away the right to strike...education is deemed an a essential service. Bill 12.
BC teachers federation was told to send its teachers back into the classroom or have its members arrested. On Thursday, the courts froze the assests of the BC Teachers Federation and told them they could not pay its members $50/day strike pay.

What are teachers wanting in their contract???: In many provinces the public school teachers have a maximum classroom size cap... BC public school teachers have had this stripped from their contacts. In some school classrooms are 2X the legal limited and are violating the local fire codes, as well the learning environment is extremely low quality. The teacher is also faced with several other issues as well--- intergration with special needs students without the support staff. The support staff at many public schools has been sliced in half due to cut backs.

Other UNIONS know that if the BC teachers federation is being bullied like this...they too will be next on the hit list of the BC Govn't. ....the situation is turning ugly, very quickly!

A GENERAL STIKE IS VERY LIKELY...THIS MAY HAPPEN WITHIN 24 HRS!!

    I need your support!

Yeah I really hadn't thought of it as revolutionary so I never bothered to post it here. :P

I was excited by the fact that the BC federation on Labour wasn't rallying behind the NDP, that was positive.

But the truth is that we as radicals have to make serious changes to the union movement in BC if we expect a general strike to happen withing the next 10 years.

I'm not trying to sound like a bummer or anything. But the fact is that all this hype, and loss of pay for the teacher, and education for the kids, and money for the parents, ended out in stlightly less diminished wages for the teachers, and chump change for education itself.

Aswell I'm generally not a big fan of the school system as it currently stands. :P

Yeah, and we all saw what happened with the HEU a year or two ago. (can't remember how long exactly).

First the HEU, now the BCTF.. those are the unions basically with the most important provincial workers, and they were both crushed. The "liberal" gov't can basically walk all over anyone now.

And the gov't couldn't even give them a written guarantee.. I would have voted NO without this guarantee. Complete bull shit.

The people united will never be defeated!
