    Hello all,

Central London (Saturday, 24 September 2005) anti-war protest.

I departed from Liverpool at about 7:15 am with members of the SWP (Socialist Workers Party) - The boredom of the coach ride was soon alleviated by discussions of Marxism, differences between socialist and communists, and films quotations (“I bury those cock-a-roaches!" - Scarface). - and arrived in London at about 1:30 pm. The coach that I was on arrived slightly late in Central London. My group and I had to catch up with the rest of the protesters as the demonstration had already proceeded without us. There seemed to be a good turn out of protesters but the amount of people that turned up is, yet again, a contentious issue: "Police said about 10,000 people took part, but Stop The War Coalition said up to 100,000 were protesting." - BBC news. The route took the demonstration along Whitehall and into Piccadilly before reaching Hyde Park for a rally. The Rally, hosted by the Stop The War coalition (www.stopwar.org.uk), invited guests such as John Pilger, Tom Hayden, Jenny Tonge, Tony Benn, Tariq Ali amongst many more, including the Uncle of Anthony Walker (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...de/4747247.stm) the teenager who murdered in a racially motivated attack, and families of soldiers killed in Iraq also attended. According to the BBC, police said the event was peaceful and there had been no arrests. Click here for pictures from Hyde Park Stop the War rally.

That's great. I nearly managed to get there, but realised im too poor. You will be able to catch me at the Anarchist Bookfair.

Good to hear you managed to go, and thanks for the pictures.
"How you cling to your purity, young man! How afraid you are to soil your hands! All right, stay pure! What good will it do? Why did you join us? Purity is an idea for a yogi or a monk. You intellectuals and Bourgeois anarchists use it as a pretext for doing nothing. To do nothing, to remain motionless, arms at your sides, wearing kids gloves. Well, I have dirty hands. Right up to the elbows. I've plunged them in the filth and blood. But what do you hope? Do you think you'll govern innocently?"
