I think it is worth noting that, at one point, during the period were they were still relevant, the Heritage Front officially endorsed the Reform Party.

As to "Red Torries", they were a mostly Atlantic Canadian phenomena. Many rural Atlantic Canadians, and particularly Nova Scotians, have had historically strong family ties with the Conservative party - even though they often held strongly contridictory views on many important social questions.
Most Red Torries, of course, have little-or-nothing to do with the new Conservative Party - which is essentially an extention of the regionally-limited ultra-right Canadian Alliance.
The life we have conferred upon these objects confronts us as something hostile and alien.

    I fucking hate Jack Layton.
    ?
    Why?
Is it because he's with the democratic socialist NDP?
    ?
Jack stood out front of Ernst Zundel's place in T.O. with A.R.A.!
He may have to keep his sympathies under wrap for the position he is in, however I would suggest that perhaps he is very much on side. [/b]
Sorry, Jack came along on his bicycle, made a quick speech and then left.

Since that time Jack Layton has had absolutely nothing to do wtih ARA and acts like he never did (and really, he didn't aside from making a quick speech).

As for the Canadian Action Party, they are definately not fascist. They are economic nationalists and have some left very left ideas of ecnomics (in terms of distribution and nationalization) and they are very against banks.

They have supporters on the Council of Canadians and such; so basically you could say it's smaller Canadian bourgeois interests.

At least they are counter to the status quo.

As for the Christian Heritage Party, they are very fascistic certainly, but don't carry the mass base of support, nor do they focus on the economic issues enough to be considered fascist. They are more focused on "moral" issues.

There are certainly fascist organizations of different types around though, for example Don Andrews and his crappy little Nationalist Party of Canada. Heritage Front is dead, but Marc Lemire, Max French, Paul Fromm and other minions are still around. There are minsule bonehead (neo-nazi skinhead) gangs around here and there, but generally the centre of fascism in Ontatio is London, with the Nothern Alliance and Canadian Heritage Alliance.

Paul Fromm also has several front groups set up, such as the Canadian Association for Free Expression (CAFE), and some anti-immigrant front.

Aryan Nations was shut down in Toronto.

Southern Ontario Skinheads, shut down in Hamilton.

Other crappy little boneheads in Cooksville, shut down.

Also, there has been the third-position neo-fascist National Bolsheviks (Nazbols or Natbols) organizing and spotted in Toronto. They won't last long though.

RC's got it together. Jack is a social democrat - and a shitty one at that. Anything "good" he does is just for a photo-op. Fuck'im.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread.....but I couldnt resist.

The link above will show Jack Layton at another "photo-op".
There is an hammer and sickle on the grave stone that cant be seen in this pic. This guy was murdered by a policeman just 9 months after the October revolution.
He was hiding out in the bush avoiding conscription.

Yeah Jack is with the NDP, but just maybe this Pinko is a darker shade of pink than some of you may think.

Or maybe he is an opportunistic dirtbag. [/b]
Jack's nto a bad guy. I've got nothing against him persynally, I think he has done some good reformist things during his bourgeois political career that have been good for working class people and the labour movement, but probably good for petty-bourgeois people too. I would buy him a beer and chat/debate politics in a friendly manner with him anytime.

BUT, Iw as an activist protesting war on Afghanistan after 9/11. Where the fuck was Jack Layton, the NDP and the rest of their followers? I, and others, has been on the front lines of shit - all kinds of activism - for a long time.

Then, the threat that Kanada might play a role in Iraq comes along. This time there is no sensitivity about dead ameriKKKan military people, "little Eichman's" and imperialist country workers on 9/11. The NDP sports these huge opportunity to scoop up supporters from the radical left, and with the help of the I.S., fly in like vultures.

So suddenly, Jack Layton and all these other opportunists are marching at the front of demos holding giant banners, when all the other people who put their asses on the line in the past a treated like fringers.

And when Kanada said "no, we won't go to war in Iraq" what happened? The numbers got smaller. The big sophistos stopped comign to the demos... Then when CNN announced "Mission accomplished" the numbers faltered again. Coalitions and fronts are dissolved. People are absorbed by the opportunists.

But the real comrades are still on the front lines fighting against the occupation of Afghanistan, Iraq and Haiti. Only a fool, who wasn't there or just wasn't paying attention could see what opportunism did for itself and to the anti-war movement in Kanada.
