No, Bush is not a fascist although he does have the support of many Christian fascists. To call him a fascist is to water down what fascism actually is.

I think Castro had the right idea when he said the US govt could not act like nazis domestically, because of the constitution, bill of rights etc - but could act like nazis on the international scene, invading countries and conducting acts of naked aggression.

He's not a fascist because the fascist atleast had the decency to consult with unions and labor groups.
"We are now becoming a mass party all at once, changing abruptly to an open organisation, and it is inevitable that we shall be joined by many who are inconsistent (from the Marxist standpoint), perhaps we shall be joined even by some Christian elements, and even by some mystics. We have sound stomachs and we are rock-like Marxists. We shall digest those inconsistent elements. Freedom of thought and freedom of criticism within the Party will never make us forget about the freedom of organising people into those voluntary associations known as parties."

He is teetering on the edge.

At any moment he and his clique may turn this America into a fascist empire to rival all the others.

Till then, he's just a kid in a Mickey Mouse hat playing big boy Risk.

What's the difference?

Honestly, I've read a good bit on fascism and a good bit on neo-conservatism, and they are very similar. Their rejection of both socialism/Marxism/communism and of "classical liberalism" (Libertarian, or traditional conservative), their imperialist, war-mongering foreign policy, their extreme nationalism, and so on. Is Bush comparable to Hitler or Mussolini? No, not exactly, but his economic policies* are without a doubt fascist, and his domestic and foreign policies are getting closer...

*"Fascism should more appropriately be called corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power." (Benito Mussolini, Encyclopedia Italiana)

He is not a fascist, he is very right wing but not as fascist. He does not have gangs of extra parliamentary thugs beating up left wingers or trade unionists. If you start calling him a fascist then the word looses all meaning.

FFS, will people here actually learn what fascism is?
When you do, you'll realise how bad it is, and why (comparatively speaking) you are lucky to live under Bush.

I know what fascism means. Is Bush Mussolini light? No. That doesn't mean we can't draw definite parallels to the US though....

He is definitly not a facist. I agree with h&s that a true facist society would be much worse than the corporate hell hole that we amerikans live under. Though the current amerikan government has some qualities of facism non of them are extreme enouf for me to come to the conclusion that Bush is a facist. Not a facist, but definitly a wanker.

Bush is idiot..a christian and a bloody conserstive but he s not fascit note the lack openly purging racal groups and not killing communists
Sad thing is not having friends, but sadder still must be not having any enemies; because it is a sign that he who doesn't lacks any talent that makes for himself a shadow, nor character that inspires, nor honor to be rumored, nor goods to be coveted, nor anything to be envied

Fascist is not an insult, it describes someone who follows a political system, since Bush does not (and I doubt he'd be smart enough to read Mussolini anyway) follow this system he is not a fascist.
Going around calling people fascists is a good way to fit into a stereotype.

Also, I didn't read any replies, so if what I have just written has been said a load of times before I apologise.

note the lack openly purging racal groups
Fascism is not inherently racist. Racism is just a tool of some fascists to give it a mass base. Mussolini was not really racist untill he got talking to Hitler.
Fascism is about the preservation of the rule of capital which comes from the middle classes in response to working class attempts for power.
