    Revolution is not a Theory
    By: Jonathan Clark

The time when the "free world" is robbing you of your freedoms, when the "free market" is a private market, and when "freedoms" are given up to protect our "rights" that revolution must come. And that time is now.

The revolution, our revolution, is not a definable pin-point on a general spectrum of revolutions. We are not part of a chapter in history, we are history. This is the point at which we must shout out and be heard, but not only to make noise, but to be heard.

It is deemeaning to our revolution when we speak of it in theory, and when we talk about it as if it is on the distant horizon. The revolution is when we stop being part of the capitalist machine. The progression of the species demands us to stand up and stop capitalism. The species can only progress scientifically, phylisophically, and morally if we end the boundaries capitalism places on science, phylosophy, and morals.

Communism is not the "next section of humanity" either. Communism is humanity. Communism is the culmination of the species working together for each other.

And our revolution is not something to be labelled, packaged, and shipped off to where it is needed. It is something that we are, that we can't hide, and that we give to the times when revolution can occur for justifiable reasons. When I say we, I mean us, the revolutionaries of our time. We cannot sit idly and read books about revolution, when the revolution is now. As it always will be.

The key to revolution, be it violence, peace, protests, or disorder of the machine itself, is everywhere. We can find it, we must find it. This is not a cry for action, it is the revealing of action.

Everywhere there are people unpleased with the chains of their lives. They have been told to think communism is evil, they have been told they are happy, they have been told to obey... and yet there are masses which defy these things. Capitalist nations can order what they want out of us, and the vast majority may forfeit their individualism and obey. But we, as revolutionaries, out of the reason for the continuation of the species, cannot let them silently obey.

Refuse the actions of the capitalist machine. Resist the actions of the capitalist machine. The time of considering ourselves part of the proletariat are over. The term proletariat is a dead term the moment the revolution conquers. Do not think of people as the bourgeois or the proletariat. Think of them as the stagnant, and the revolutionaries.

Reaction gets us nowhere, action takes us beyond where we are. Revolutionaries are not a tool of the oppressed, revolutionaries are the oppressed. One cannot fight without deep love of what they fight for, and I am willing to fight and die for the oppressed, the exploited, and those who cannot fight for themselves. I call out to every one of you and ask the same. Not for me, for the revolution.

Revolution is not a theory, it is a breathing organ of change. Revolution is not a theory, it is force of power and freedom. Revolution is not a theory, it is a the liberation of the human species.

    Revolution is not a theory!

    BORING!!!

Will people never tire of this airheaded propaganda about how we can just ignore reality and the past and simply change the definition of various words and come to a revolution?

If you're serious about revolution you understand the need for theory. If you're not serious about revolution you write nonsense which suggests that "the" revolution is happening right now "in our daily struggle." What is this except to ultimately argue against revolution and for being the permanent opposition.

The biggest irony is that this piece of writing is actually putting forth a theory. The theory that you don't need theory. This is nicely flavored with romantic prose and over the top wagnerian posturing. I swear I can almost hear the "Ride of the Valkyries" in the background as I read this crap.

I guess I've gotten tired of revolutionary junkfood and am looking for some truth.

    Completely... missed... the... point.

The idea is that revolution is not something to just fantasize and put off.

The saying "Revolution is not a theory!" means that talking about revolution IS NOT REVOLUTION. You can't be a revolutionary by solely writing alone.

If that was the case then they would have said that revolution is both a theory and a practice, among other things.

I'm certainly not against an argument which says we need to do more than simply talk about stuff and actually organize, but I'm completely against an argument which sees theory as unrelated to practice, or as a solely academic exercise.

And ultimately I think it does engage in fantasizing. The fantasy that theory is an encumbrance and that the revolution is happening right now and only needs to be "revealed".

Both very vaild points. But I think I have to agree with Repeater138, theory is not just ideology, so to speak, as you must use practise to attempt to support a theory. I think if there were to be a revolution that was without theory, we wouldn't really get very far, would we? I mean, instincts can go so far and be a good thing, but not when you follow them right into the middle of a battle, political debate, war, whatever, as then you'd have no idea what the hell's going on. Therefore: theory = good, practise = good, discussion = good, RevLeft = good, and includes theory, practise and discussion. Think about it, if there were no theory, this site would ultimately be pointless, as "theory" is to vague a word for this situation. So, yeah...

I wrote it. By saying "Revolution is not a theory!" is to say basicly you can have revolutionary theory, the revolution isn't on pen and paper.
