The God of the Jews is a vengeful god The God of the Jews is a vengeful god, a murderous god it is well known. Look what happened to the Canaanites, the poor Jews think they can get along fine, but noo God punishes them because they didn't kill every one of the Canaanites.

If you look at the Bible it is obviously written by a multitude of authors, some of it seems even to imply that there are other gods, but Jehovah is the best one.

Mass killing of animals wouldn't really constitute genocide and since many of you think god doesn't exist how can you say god is cruel? Yeah the bible is inacurate and full of strange unbelieveable things ok so maybe the bible is untrustworthy also. See? Maybe something else better exists. Some natural order of after life. We can hope.

About Chomsky's quote, I would have to say the Koran is worse than the Bible, and has (And still is) used to condone more heinous crimes than the Christians have generally commited.

There seems to be a particularism among religious hatred, limited to Christians. I'm open with my hatred of my religion; Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, all the same to me.

And I would just like to post my favorite Bible quote here:

Malachi 2:3 Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.

Here's my "Favourite" verse.

1 Timothy 2:11-16

A woman should learn in quitness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or tohave authority over a man; che must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one decieved: it was the woman who deceived and became a sinner. But woman will be saved through childbearing-if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

I don't think there are a whole lot of people here who "hate Christians." We hate the bigots; we merely have pity for the others. You could hate a serial killer, sure, but would you hate an autistic kid? Of course not.

I feel I am slighting the mentally ill by comparing them to the religious, but the analogy was too valid. They are both forms of neurological dysfunction, but whereas mental illness is caused by physical abnormalities, religion is simply for the outrageously gullible.

I think the reason we spend so much time talking about Christianity is because, in all fairness, we are discussing the environment which shaped us and which we one day hope to shape. We feel far more comfortable attacking our own bigots, partially because we have seen them attack whole groups which each certainly have their own bigots, but aren't so close to home.

I love how "G"od generalizes based on what ONE woman with her OWN free will did, and therefore punishes all the following females. Then he once said "The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin" (Deut 24:16). Go figure.

Also, check this one out (not an "evil" thing, but it's amazing how god can miss this little details):

The Silly Bible
@ Genesis 3:4-7 (emphasis added)
"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."

Well, that's because most people who criticize religions are very familiar with christianism and not with other religions. Since most of this people lives in the "West" (possibly because in many of the other more "backward" countries people might be too repressed to even think of questioning Allah or whoever's their deity), they know christians and their insanity too well and not how people's brainwashed into other nonsense.

Personally, I spend more time attacking Christianity because it's more of a threat where I live (and on this board, generally). It won't do any good if a Christian hears what I have to say about Buddhism, because the Christian already thinks Buddhism is crap. I attack Christianity because it's what people believe. Of course, if a Buddhist or a Muslim wants to tangle, I'm more than willing.

just read the whole bible, its a good read if you can handle it,

you need to read it with no preconceptions of christianity and then you will be able to make your own assertions,

some find it evil others find it loving, its a pices of literature interpret it as you please, but pelase don't take it out of context to make it look bad,

i used to do that, but i can't anymore. The bible is a story and god doesn't exist so don't make it appear as if he does exist just to make him look bad.

read itr for yourself then make posts like this don't read chomsky and complain read the bible.

It also shows what a great person Adam was if he didn't try to stop her eating the fruit, tut tut.

The bible has to be the gretest work of fiction though.

I'm not, I am merley commenting on the absurdity of the way the people wrote the books, for god didn't write it. And reading the bible adds to my facination of the people who follow it, so I am only commenting on what I deem to be highley "ludicrous" if I can use such a word.

So Publius, why such a loathing of religion?
Perhaps I came off a bit strong, but it's accurate to what I believe.

I 'loathe' religion because it's such an illogical concept. Most people don't use it malavelently, but the entire concept is tyrannical.

I don't like the concept of a God. At all.

I like being alone in the Universe. It's something that scares most people, being a speck of a sand in space, but it's something that comforts me, it let's me know that I'm free to live my life as I want to.

And religious types often want to interfere with this.

To put it very simple, if you interefere with freedom, you interefere me.
