When has a modern pope ever not been reactionary?
"We are now becoming a mass party all at once, changing abruptly to an open organisation, and it is inevitable that we shall be joined by many who are inconsistent (from the Marxist standpoint), perhaps we shall be joined even by some Christian elements, and even by some mystics. We have sound stomachs and we are rock-like Marxists. We shall digest those inconsistent elements. Freedom of thought and freedom of criticism within the Party will never make us forget about the freedom of organising people into those voluntary associations known as parties."

I think Pope John Paul II has already denied official support for the Liberation Theory when he was in Mexico.

But their claim is stupid as hell---how could a sect leader who was nick named "the King of Jews" NOT be political?

When John Paul II went to visit the newly formed Sandanista Govt. he refused to shake Ortega's hand saying privitly that he needs to drop the Marxism first.

When he was giving mass, the people showed up with banners saying "There is no contradiction between God and Liberation" (or something to the effect)... and the chanted over him when he started speaking against the govt.
