Unfortunately, i would think that the number of socialists in those percentages is even smaller.

Well if I am not envious of my comrades in Oregon...

From skiming the data, I it seems we average about 17% (I couldn't find an exact figure), that isn't so bad...

It’s time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don’t believe in God, then get out of this country.

The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe.

I don’t recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even says, “In God We Trust.” So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country.

People like Gail Pepin (The Chronicle, October 11) have caused the ruin of this great nation by taking prayer out of our schools and being able to practice what can only be called evil. I don’t care if she has never committed a crime, she is the reason crime is rampant.

To The Chronicle, please do not give atheists a voice. You do more harm than good.
Wow... fucking hypocrites.

Who is that quote from? It's ridiculous!

It's like saying "You've got freedom of speech, if you speak religion like the rest of us"

I'm a 'half-arsed' Christian, and most of my mates are atheist. The people in that article need their heads sorting out

Those atheists will get you some day
I need more theists to respond to my thread; perhaps less reactionary ones...

63% Believe Bible Literally True

April 23, 2005--Sixty-three percent (63%) of Americans believe the Bible is literally true and the Word of God. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 24% disagree and say it is not.

A related survey found that 47% of Americans pray every day or nearly every day.

Among Evangelical Christians, 89% believe the Bible is literally true and just 4% say it is not. Among other Protestants, 70% believe the Bible is literally true. That view is shared by 58% of Catholics.

By a 4-to-1 margin, those who believe the Bible is literally true have a favorable opinion of the new Pope.

Sixty-five percent (65%) of women believe the Bible is literally true along with 61% of men.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans believe in the literal truth of the Bible as do 59% of Democrats and 50% of those not affiliated with either major party.

Eighty-two percent (82%) of black Americans believe the Bible is literally true and is the Word of God. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of White Americans share that view along with 71% of other, primarily Hispanic, Americans.

While older Americans are a bit more likely to believe in the literal truth of the Bible, 58% of American adults under 30 hold that view.

You sure are getting there redstar!

A whopping 1/10th of US states are above 20% non-believers. That's only 80% of the US motherfucking population that you have left.

Eighty-percent isn't so bad, it really isn't.
Mind you, the state with the highest percentage can't even reach 30%.

For once you are right, whoever thinks like those you quote are morons.
I have met neither a religious fanatic nor a hard-core leftist whose arguments did not make me laugh.

The reason is that their arguments are actually one and the same: "it'll work because I believe in it, even though all available evidence is to the contrary."

Well, inDUHvidual, we're doing the best we can...and making progress.

To be sure, the Christian fascists that you evidently admire are also doing the best they can...which is pretty depressing.

Too bad they didn't have polling in the 1850s; it would be interesting to see how public opinion developed on the issue of slavery prior to the civil war.

I think a second edition of the civil war would be "a good thing"...how about you?

I'm sure you'd be out on the front lines, after all those who talk the biggest games are usually the ones who back it up.

Why don't you go start your war like right now? I highly recommend walking around Cap Hill while waving a gun around. I'm sure your followers will join you.

You're a harsh master, Mr. t...wanting to run my ancient ass onto the battlefield.

Still, who knows? I've lived a pretty full life and if it should end in a battle against the Christian fascists...well, that wouldn't be the worst way to go, would it?

Say, the Battle of Atlanta?

Gee, I let you down again.

There's just no pleasing you, Mr. t...short of bending the knee to the despotism of capital.

And you know I'm not going to do that, don't you?

Gee, I let you down again.

Naw, fortunately my expectations for you are so low that you'd be hard pressed to let me down.

There's just no pleasing you, Mr. t...short of bending the knee to the despotism of capital.
Now, that would disappoint me even more, to see a man of such high principle sell out.

Red, I need whackos and nutcases like you because I find you most interesting and entertaining. Remember Silence of the Lambs when Clarice visited those guys to see what kind of moth she had recovered from the dead girl's mouth? Those two were playing chess with live bugs. You're like one of those bugs to me.

By the way, approximately 84% of the world's population believes in God in one way or another.

All too true.

But, the percentage is falling...and has been for the last couple of centuries.

Even if you didn't know this, the public stance of the major godrackets would give you a clue that "something's going on".

Their hysterical rants about communism, atheism, secular humanism, evolution, etc. and their whining about "empty churches", the decline of "morality", etc. should tell you that they are on the "defensive" and they know it.

"Mankind is very stupid," said Einstein in one of his sour moods, "and progress is very slow."

Nevertheless, progress is being made.

Face it, guy, no matter the strength of your own supernatural delusions, in the long run, you're on the losing side.

Ironically, the capitalism that you so admire gets a good deal of credit for undermining your personal superstition and those of others. It was bourgeois philosophers and scientists back in the 18th and 19th centuries that shattered the intellectual credentials of religion beyond all hope of repair.

And while some capitalists today try desperately to put St. Humpty-Dumpty back together again (he was so useful), the over-all effects of the marketplace continue to eat away at religious belief like a powerful acid.

Who needs "Heaven" when you've got "Sex in the City"...or Disney World?

Yup and after the "egg-scrambler" of the industrial revolution, the good ol' feudal lords and their men, weren’t ever able to find his rear end...

Funny how reactionaries praise capitalism but curse the religious decline // < correlation.
