I found this article a while ago. Anyone interested in the issue of sweatshop labor, by which capitalists increase their profits at the expense of workers, should read it. I found it very enlightening, and the justification by the bourgeois spokesperson near the end is absolutely horrific.

Economists have provided capitalists with a comforting concept called the "free market." It does not describe any part of reality, at any place or time. It's a mantra conveniently invoked when it is proposed that government do something the faithful don't like, and just as conveniently ignored whenever they want government to do something for them.

...Like Nike can't afford to take the billions of dollars they shove into Michael Jordon's hands to endorse their shoes and put it into the hands of the workers who actually make the shoes.

Nope, that would lead to layoffs. Higher wages are bad for workers. I'm afraid you'll never be a corporate spokesperson, MDP.

Direct action is key- don't just sit at your computer and rant at leftists you disagree with slightly- get out there and DO IT. Organize. Change your life, and change the lives of those around you. The reason the waterheads are still in power is because we aren't being loud enough.

Read NoLogo by Naomi Kleine if you want to be exposed to the full horros of sweatshop labour (and corporate business in general). It contains interesting stories like enforced birth control and abortion (pregnant workers are not as productive), the killing of people that try to organise unions.

if people stopped buying these products it could happen.... but it won't because these shoes are status symbols of society.... many people who never do atheletics own $200 - $300 running shoes... while the kid on the other side of the world gets 11 cents and needles through his hands....

Where are most of the Nike factories?
I've heard they are in China but should the gov't step in and stop Nike from taking advantage of them in a communist country
